How do I illuminate a Apex cluster to check mileage?

Was giving a Apex Pod of headlights, windshield and gauage. I want to see how many miles are shown on the guage so I can sell it. Anybody here know how to illuminate the guage with out having a Apex to plug it into?

I would say to get a hold of a schematic from an apex and find out which wire is the power to the lights. Then use a 12 volt battery.
