I have a 1943 Remington 03A3 military 30-06 that I used for deer hunting.

Haven't been hunting in years and have lost the passion to go. I wanted to sell it but can't seem to do so. Local paper doesn't want the add. Ebay doesn't want the add and Craigslist doesn't want the add.

WTF????

I can sell it in pieces on ebay but they won't let you sell the receiver???

I've been outta the loop on gun stuff for a few years and didn't realize they were so taboo to advertizers.

So where does one go now-a-days to sell a gun without having to go to a show or give it away to the local dealer?

Any suggestions??

Thanks, Phil (opsled)

Idk about Wisconsin but alaska has this thing called alaskalist.com your state might have one like it.

Google "used guns in your town" should have a list of websites selling. If you type in make and model it should find others for sale to give you a rough Idea of what its worth. Might have an oddball making it worth a mint. EBAY or c list other general websites dont want to deal with any association do to gun violence and/or faked collector peices. You could also look for an auction whether it be an on-site auction house or an estate sale. Alot of the estate sales with let you consign guns and they usually fetch ungodly high prices.

Just out of curiosity what are you asking? I've got an 03A3. Damn nice gun. Ive put many shells through it. Nice guns

what condition is it in? i use a remington model 1917 30-06 for deer, always wanted 03a3.

Wow, A lot of great advice!!! Thanks guys.

I've had this gun for close to 30 years.

When I was a kid I would go hunting (deer grouse squirrel) with my dad and our neighbor to Richland Center Wi. We stayed at my neighbor's in-laws farm. They were great people (Walt and Doris). They would set up bunks for us in their attatched garage, feed us and treated us like family. Walt was like my 3rd grandpa. My dad was a carpenter and we did a lot of work up the to try and repay the hospitality. Remodled the bathroom one year for Doris, built Walt a new pole barn another. Stuff like that. Tried to show our appreciation. Spent a lot of time walking those hills and Doris made the best hamburger/gravy/mashed potatoes I've ever had.

This was Walts gun. I had a Remington 742-308 with a scope. It was a nice one with the engraving in the reciever that was gold inlayed. Old Walt's eyes weren't the best anymore and I would always let him use my gun (when he went out with us) and I would use this one. He really liked that 742 and even when I quit going up my dad would take my 742 along for Walt to use. One year I told my pappy to let Walt know that if he liked that 742 enough I'd trade him for his 03A3. I had shot 4 deer with this thing with 4 shots. Two were on a dead run up the hill through the brush. Luck? maybe but the original peep sights just seemed to be perfect. If the target was in the peep and the bead was on the target it was goin down when you squeezed the trigger. I can see how it would be your best friend if you were living in a foxhole during the war.

Anyway, My dad brought me home an 03A3 that year and my 742 stayed in Richland Center. Walt used it for many years after that. He's gone now.

This thing is still all original with the exception of the stock. Walt had shortened the front of it to make it look more like a hunting rifle. He may have even bought it like this. I'm not sure. The rest of the gun is original and a Remington. I guess many were made by other companies that weren't gun manufacturers before the war but were converted to boost production that was needed at the time.

I should probably just stick it back in the closet. There are many memories associated with it that are mine. I wish I could see those memories of the guys that had it before me. It should be used though because it hasn't made a memory in close to 20 years. Just been wasting time in a closet. Not fitting for an old warrior.

Anyway, Probably many good stories out there like that.

Here's some pics.

Thanks again, Phil (opsled)

Try gunbroker.com or ebang.com, most local gundealer will sell guns on consignment for a reaspnable fee. That's what I usually do, then I dont have to advertise or mess with the sale and I only pay a small paperwork fee to the dealer.

You could also look up some of the local sportsman forums in Wisconsin or around the area.

One that I frequent quite a bit here in MN is fishingminnesota.com

However, they have quite a large following of hunters also...seems to go hand in hand.

Plenty of Wisconsinites on that forum also.

I'm 1 mile shy (south) of being able to hunt with a rifle! It'd be fun to have a rifle like that.

Personally from the way it sounds, I'd say put it back in the safe and hang on to it. Loved your story about it.....hard to replace something like that!

It does seem to have some family history. Is there someone in the family you could pass it on to? I got my best rifle from an uncle. He gave me a really good deal but made me promise not to sell it.

If it stays it will likely just sit in the closet. I have two sons but our interests aren't in hunting.

I have memories with it but they are not completely tied to this gun and they I will always have them.

There were also memories and history prior to my getting it and it could still be making more if it were being used. I'll probably sell it. May wait till the fall though.

We'll see.

Thanks again for all the help guys, opsled
