Since winter is all but a memory and my Grizz needs nothing i have to start looking for new tires for my truck. I have a 2008 F150 crew, nothing special, that needs new tires. Most of my driving is on paved roads but i do go off road from time to time especially during the fall for hunting. I currently have the stock BF's Rugged Trail. I have been looking a the BF's All Terran KO and the Goodyears Dura Traks because some of the logging roads i run in fall get pretty rough and did get a few slow leak flats. But i am worried i will wear out the tires and loose fuel milage running 80% of the time on pavement.
What you guys think?

my uncle who has been logging for 30 years swears by the dayton timberlines and he used them hard hauling with his f150. i did run a set on my 98 gm in the summer and they where lasting pretty well.
the goodyear silent armour (formerly the wrangler ht) worked pretty well for me on my last truck. they do tend to melt if you are hauling heavy at +35c over 100kph. they work well in the snow and the mud and the fuel milage was the same as the stockers even though they where 10ply.
stay away from the bridgestone duler at revo as they wear like iron but suck for traction in slick conditions. they are the reason i started running winter tires with/without studs.
i did buy a set of dura tracs but only ran them one winter with studs before i got the new truck. brother is still running them on a 03 gm and they are wearing well but we only used them in the winter. traction was better than the silent armours but i did not run them without studs for a comparison.
the two tires i would reccomend if you are running them year round are the goodyear silent armour and hercules terratrac at. kirkswim had the terratracs (older model) on an s10 blazer for 7 years and i am still running the same tires on my plow truck at home.
the only other thing is make shure you get lt (light truck) rated tires as they resist punctures better and the rubber is harder tha p (passenger) rated tires. go through this every time i get a new truck and i always have trouble with the p-series tires that come with the truck doing the same stuff it sounds like you are doing.

Dimebag Darrell RIP
I have the BFG All Terrain KO's, they work great and last as well - over 50,000 miles on this set so far.

I'm a Michelin guy myself I have the LTX M/S 2's on my 08 Silverado, they ride great and are quiet on the highway but I have yet to see what they will be like in mud. This is the first winter with them and I never really give them a proper test to see what they will do in snow but the reviews on them don't give them much of a rating. From the sounds of it you use your truck the same way I use mine and if I were to buy another set of Michelins I'd probably go with the LTX AT's as they are supposed to be better in the mud and snow than the M/S's.

My dad got a set of Michelins that are the Ltx M/s2 on his 08 Sliverado too last fall. He has the 20's on his truck. All i can say are they are a real good tire. In winter they get around real good and also in the mud. I was very impressed with them.

I work at a ford dealer and the Firestone destination a/t seem to wear good. I had some on a 2500hd and liked them. Now I have kelly safari ts/r. Those are really meaty though!

Been running the grabber AT2 for a couple years now on my 3/4 ton. Excellent road manners, great on snow/ice (unstudded), wearing a little faster than I'd have liked, but seem to have slowed down now that they are at 10/32nds.

Love the kelly safari tsr's on the 99 2500, not as much as their msr's but they dont make em any more. Running 35x14.50x15 on the 1500 mudder and 33x12.50x16 BFG Mud terrains on the 97 1500 daily driver. The mud tire dont last running alot of pavement though.

Lots of info, thanks guys, i stopped in my local Kal Tire and was shown these Falken Wildpeak tires http://www.falkentire.com/Tires/Wildpeak-A-T-17 and did some online checking and they seem to get pretty good reviews.......i guess i just need to decide on how aggressive of a tire i am going to go with....i did forget to mention that i have Blizzak winter tires so a tire that doesn't perform well in winter is not an issue for me .....i always over analyze this kinda of stuff

My father just bought those same tires for his 2500hd. They are almost worn out in 15k miles and he complains about the sidewalls be squirmy while rounding a corner or towing. Just saying.

I have those Falkens on my GMC and dont really like them. Their ok in snow. (a bit squirelly in slush). They stink offroad. Ive had to lock in before just to get off a incline on the lawn. Go with those General Grabber AT/2. Thats what was on my truck last time and I loved them. Look good on truck and perform even better. I got about 30k out of them but im hard on tires for some reason(maybe that heavy foot) so I was happy I got that out of them.
