I am looking to replace my stock 98 gear and chain setup to 23-38 gears and a 70 pitch 13 wide chain from a 2000 srx. (hyvo) Will this bolt right in my 98 or will I need shims etc.? I am hoping it will help me pull my 8bu10's loaded to 8500 rpm better. I am at about 8200-8400rpm with 55 gr 8bu's and my green secondary is at 90. 52-40 helix, Max red primary spring. Would these gears yield higher rpm? Thanks

the hyvos were a direct bolt in on my srx, chain and gears as a set. you cant mix them up with non hyvo parts.

waste of time & $$, your rpm's won't change. take a gram out & fine tune w/ driven adjustment.

Fully agree that this will be a waste of time and money.

The only advantage I see to going to the hyvo gears is less rotating mass and the 98 srx was geared slightly tall IMO. 23/38 hyvo gears would be a good upgrade for these reasons

Thanks for the input guys......I just figured going a bit steeper from the 37 tooth to a 38 tooth would help the engine rev a bit easier. I was going to try and be at 8500 rpm with the ported engine, with maybe not so much secondary wrap to get better top end. Maybe I'll try drilling out 1 gram from 8bu-10's to achieve this...I just wasn't sure if I would benefit from going from 98-99 gears 23-37 to 2000-2002 gears 23-38, now I can save a few bucks and time.....thanks

WHY NOT THAN LEAVE EVERYTHING ALONE AND JUST GET A DIFFERENT HELIX. 3:16 (yammie tony)

your probably correct on the 8500. i know bender's trail port makes power @ 8500.

I was thinking about that too Yammie God, but I wasn't sure which one to try. Right now I have a Maxx 52-40 msr8 I think and also a red max primary spring. I also have the stock helix sitting around somewhere too.......what do u recommend? Right now this sled has awesome bottom and really pulls hard mid but I could only get 106 gps top speed.....should I throw in the stock helix?

that will be almost all the speed you will get..maybe 110 to 112 gps and that will be it.If you are set up for the track, lowered, weight dropped..etc..then you can see more..

NO ON THE STOCK HELIX, AND I WILL TELL YA, SOME GOOD GUYS IN THIS POST, BUT I DISAGREE , GEARING CAN AFFECT YOUR PEAK RPM. ESPECIALLY IF YOUR RUNNING A LONG DISTANCE. YOU NEED A HELIX AROUND A 52/38, 51/37. PUT YA RIGHT ON THE MONEY. ALSO NOT MENTIONED THE 13 WIDE 00-02 HYVO GEARS ARE LIGHTER. UP TO YOU. 3:16 (yammie tony)

what does the 02 SRX use for gears Tony...I know 13 wide..but is it hyvo??I replaced my chain 2 years back 2 links less to keep chain more straight instead of using the adjuster to tension it and getting more bend on the chain.Wander if I have the right chain then..h'mmm.Will have to check in the Fall as I want to go down 1 tooth upper ..
