water pump shaft wore smooth

did anyone ever see this happen before? my sled is a 2003 venture 700 red head with approx 30,000 km... the gear on the water pump shaft that connects to the gear on the crank is wore smooth and the gear on the crank is wore too. this sucks because ill have to get a new water pump shaft/seals forsure and it looks like ill have to get another crank also. just wondering if anyone else ever seen something like this before because I never!

Almost sounds like the water pump shaft bearing seized on the shaft.

had it happen on my 97 700SX but the shaft was fine only the impeller was bad---- are you sure that the shaft is just not full of aluminum from the impeller??

The shaft is steel the the impeller is aluminum..... Just a thought that maybe the shaft can be cleaned up.
