Hello, I know this is the slow time of the year for the board but this is when I start working on the sled for the next year. I like to boondock and ride the powder. I have a 121 right now. I want to change the skid to a lighter one with less of an approach angle and what ever skid i put in the sled I want to go to a 151 with it, using a hartman kit. I'm just thinking which skid to go with, Which skids are a improvement to the stock one. The edge from polaris or the M10 or ? I have a 2000 SXR

just about anything is better than the stock one... I'm using a x-10 in one of my sleds and an IQ in the other. They are both much lighter than the Proaction skid. The x10 is a 133" and was a lot cheaper to buy, and I set it back 1.5" and use a 136" track. The IQ is a 136" is stretched to a 144 with a 8" wheel adaptor/extension. My plan for that one is to make a set of brackets or relocation plates to offset the skid to fit a 151" so I can use a 144" around home and use a 151" or 153" when I go out West. SO when it has the longer track it will have a shallower approach angle.

OK so the longer the track it makes the approach angle less? I can buy a 136 in Xtra-10 skid for $125, So i'm looking at buying this getting a Track Extension from Tracks USA to push this 136 to a 151. Do you still use hyfax when you get the extensions from tracks USA.

Setting the skid back will lessen the approach angle. A 136 skid setback 4" will give you a 144.

If you were to add a 4" ext to a 136" skid you make it a 144" skid and set the skid back 3" you would get a better approach angle and fit the 151" track...

Ok so The 136 that I was looking at was a big piece of junk. I found another one thats a Summit 144 inch skid that is in great shape for $200. So if I get this one and looking to put a 151 inch track on this one, Would I be able to set the skid back 3 inch to make the approach angle better and fit a 151 track? Thanks for your help

Just keep in mind that setting a skid back can affect how well the sled turns. A sled with a 144 that is pushed back to handle a 151 track is going to handle quite a bit worse than a 151 skid meant for it.
