So heres an interesting thing i found on my new to me 97 SX.
Took the carbs off as they were plugged up when i bought it.
The fuel lines have been replaced and are nice and flexible however the previous owner or person who serviced the machine zip tied the lines on the carbs but used the original clamps on the fuel pump.
I am just wondering if there is a valid reason for doing this or if I should just order some new clamps with my other parts.
The only reason i can see if because the lines are flexible they came off fairly easy (although it is nice and warm out right now as well so that helps.

Thanks guys, i kinda figured he broke the old ones lost them or something, but figured you guys may have heard of some crazy reason people were zip tieing them on. They used something on the bowl gaskets that came off and plugged one of the jets up but thankfully we cleaned her out and she should be good to go next year if we get a winter.

there is a good reason why zip ties and duct tape were made. They can save your azz temporarily..

Very true, since the sled is new to me (don't even have 1 mile on it yet ) i am checking it over this summer starting with the carbs, was thinking about a fuel filter but sounds like i should just check the intake pickup to see if there is anything there.

is the fuel line the yamaha grey rubber or a aftermarket colored line? the reason i ask is the aftermarket line isnt quite the right size and most times you need to ziptie the connections or the line will slip off, the factory clamps wont apply enough grab as the o.d. of the line is smaller and the i.d. of the line is slightly larger(loose fit). Nothing wrong with the zipties they hold well, you just have to replace them every time you remove them thats all.

They are clear lines look like they are only a year or two old i was thinking they were zip tied to hold better than the clamps maybe i will just zip tie them back on to make sure since they should come off every year anyway i can make sure the ties don't break.
Hopeing to make this another reliable yamaha in the stable the previous owner was a novice couldn't even figure out the parking brake so he zip tied the cable off to the side so i am trying to make sure it is all setup correct before next winter.
Not to mention the thing wouldn't idle very well after i picked it up and one jet was blocked bad enough we had to use a super fine wire to push the blockage out :O worst looking carbs i have seen.

Anyone who has worked on an outboard boat motor probley has seen there fair share of zip tie hose clamps. Seems to be standard operating procedure on them. I have used zip ties as hose clamps on numerous items with no problems
