At the beginning of winter I had my cylinders ported by mrviper700. Bought new Yamaha pistons to have him work on too. Great work, sled flies!
Mid winter I noticed this on the clutch side piston. I sumerrized my sled yesterday and re-checked. Thankfully the problem did not get worst. The other two piston are ok. You can tell the shinny coating on the top of the piston is flaking away on the other two but I think that's normal.
What can cause this? Should I be alarmed?

did you clean any of the spark plugs in one of those sandblasters? looks like a small peice of foregn matter was compressed there, I wouldnt worry about it, its not going to hurt anything.

BTW- the piston top appears to be wet/silver, meaning its rich but this can be from extended idling or choke operation. How did your sparkplugs look after you rode it for a bit?

I put in new BR9ECX spark plug at the same time. Same as I had before. Never sandblast. They looked normal after a ride. But not sure what too look for. I guess I'll have to wait for next year to take a picture of them. Fogging oil is in there now.
For some reason this piston the shinny coating did not flake off yet like the other too.

Theres a few write ups about reading plugs and piston wash. Read up on them next fall so you know what your looking for. It will help alot using older plugs as new are hard to read. going to need a back country road or feild for testing. Key to it is run sled at desired (1/2,3/4,WOT) thottle position and hit kill switch. Pull plugs and read. Will verify carb settings good to go on the whole rich/lean thing. REading plugs as you stop for fuel or what ever will give you an overall ideal but even if they look okay might still be lean @ 1/2,3/4,WOT. Makes perfect sense in my head, May not relay in print.
