I am missing the magnet that's on the end of dip stick. Not sure if it fell in the case. So i need to take the case apart to see if its in there and to remove it so it doesn't do any damage.
When I take this apart is there any parts that may fall out or is this cut and dry take cover off clean and put back on?

pretty simple..But first drain the oil from it,plug is in the tunnel side.
Thanks Blue!!! Is the magnet coming off the dip stick common?

Do you have reverse? If so there are more parts and pieces to worry about.
Yes this sled does have reversesideshowBob said:Do you have reverse? If so there are more parts and pieces to worry about.

Take a look at the manual or a parts microfiche before you start. The 10mm bolt mid chaincase cover will need to be removed as it secures the idle gear shaft as well as the 4 12mm head peripheral cover bolts will need to be removed. Careful not to loose the ball point pen size spring that is between the two small idler gears. Its not hard to do just go slow and keep the parts orginized for reassembly.

My biggest fear is when i split this cover springs and gears will just drop out to the ground as long as its all secure in there ill be fine, only reason i'm doing all this is to see if the magnet is even in there.
Do you think if it is there and i left it there would do any harm considering its such a soft metal it might just disintegrate? I'm sure they have fallen off on others and never noticed right away.
Can you tell i'm trying to talk myself out of tearing this apart!!!

I just went and looked at the dip stick on my SRX and the magnetic material does seem relatively light. The magnet is probably already chewed up and clinging on to the gears/chain. Its your call on wether you pull it apart or not...if it were me, I definately would want to take it appart and clean it all out...but thats me.
A fluid change, chain adjustment, and new magnet may be all you need to enjoy many more miles.

LAst time I had my chaincase appart there were rather large pieces of metal on the bottom of the case. At the time I had no clue what it was I inspected both gears and again and there were no signs of missing metal chunks. I am now realizing it was the magnet so I am willing to bet there is no damage to your internals.
