Hello everyone. My names Rob and I'm looking at getting my first sled since the 80's when I rode an Enticer 340. I came across this local 1998 SRX 700 for sale. I was looking for info on this model, its got 4000 miles. Is this to many miles, this an ok year? I can get the sled and like new two place Triton trailer for under $2500. What you guys think? Heres what he told me.....................1998 SRX 700 triple with triple pipes. Has intimidator after market can with rip saw track studded down the middle. Has 4,xxx miles.

"Has BRAND NEW top end, fuel lines, hifax, exhaust seals, belt, spark plugs. Everything works just like it should.

Crank was just trued and welded cylinders were honed before I put in new pistons and rings. Has brand new crank seals. I went through this entire sled, it needs nothing. It runs perfect. I have receipts and pictures to prove all work done to it.

Will include cover and stock muffler. Pictures are of the sled and the engine build. Showing the new vs old piston and new crank seals and compression. The compression is identical on all three cylinders.

I also have a two place trailer I'm willing to sell as a package deal. This is my summer price only reason I'm selling it is I bought a newer sled. If I still have it this winter my price will go up."

Sounds like a very good deal. Like new Triton trailer is worth what maybe 700-900. That makes the sled value at 1500 or so. With all the recent motor work done to the SRX I think your doing great!!!

Yeah, thats what I was thinking. My main worry is reliability. A co worker of mine that is a avid snowmobiler said to stay away from triples becuase they blow up and arnt reliable. I know nothing about triples to be honest.

other brands tripples usually dont hold together. yammis had pretty good luck with tripples. should make a good sled for u, should be reliable with everything done to it.

QUALITY FUEL, PROPER JETTING AND CLEAN CARBS = STRONG RELIABILITY ON THAT SLED.

my 2 triple motor Yamaha sleds just won't quit.Them Yami triples are the best in the industry, bullet proof. You have to maintain any motor properly.I ride my sxr600 and 2002 SRX700 hard and them triples just keep on ticking.I hate to ask what that co worker rides.Grab that sled fast and get the clutching right and you'll have stretched arms from riding...welcome aboard..

X2 on good fuel and clean carbs = reliabe. I currently own a 98 600 srx,99-00-01 srx 700's and the girlfreind rides my 00 sxr 700. Now I am going to share my OPINIONS. Obviously I LOVE the modern SRX but 98 is my least favorite year. 98 had crank issues (sounds like no worries with this sled) 98-99 has the weaker stator and single bulb head light. Many guys on here have done the upgrade to dual bulb. Search it, I recomend upgrading if you do any night riding. Check the rear suspension over good, especially the W arm (front of skid) very common for them to break/crack with little to no abuse. Fairly easy to reinforce (search this as well) If this comes apart while at cruising speed could be very bad....ruin a track at least. $2500 I would say is a fair price, IMO not a smokin deal but fair if sled/trailer in good-nice shape. ALOT of used sleds for sale due to piss poor winter we just had, what ever you buy I hope its a Yamaha!

Thanks for all the info guys. I'm going to look at it today. And just to answer a question above, the triple my co worker was talking about was an XLT Polaris triple.

I'm not gonna pay $2500, he said he'd sell it all for under $2500 so we shall see. I really want that trailer so I can use it to haul the quads as well.
And that last sentence............if it has ski's or wheels, its gonna be yamaha for me! ;)!

Alot of guys run aftermarket pistons and dont have issues, Make sure you let it fully warm up before hoping on it. The aftermarkets seem to be a little less forgiving on cold seizing.

look for a nice 02 SRX..it has the DCS system which is great.Stay away from a sled with aftermarket pistons....can't beat what Yamaha makes.

Was that the last year they made them? Also i see there is yamaha Viper 700, I take it this was the SRX replacment in the newer years? Man, these blue sleds are the best looking sleds imo.

The vipers are simiar to srx but don't come with stock tripple pipes. other things as well someone will chime in.

vipers have a little better suspension than an srx in stock form, also very nice sleds, but it ur looking for alot of speed, they will not fill the spot of an srx. i dont know anyone who has gotten rid of an srx and been happy about it, always have that part of u wanting another srx. x2 on the newer srx, at least a 00 (thats when the dual headlight started) dont be afraid of the earlier ones though if u find a smokin deal on one, as long as the crank has been trued and welded already it wont have any problems, just not as nice of a headlight and a couple less hp

on the other hand, reverse and electric start are easier to come by on vipers, and if its one of the later vipers they also have dcs, better seat, newer style controls for warmers. both sleds are good sleds if properly maintained.
