Why complete crank rebuild?

I would like to fix my '02 viper crankshaft myself (have parts) but will have to fabricate parts for removal and install. Can anyone in the nw Jersey or ne Pennsy area help me. Has anyone online done this themselves without spending several hundreds of dollars to have someone rebuild their entire crank? Why does everyone find it necessary to completely rebuild cranks? When my mag side rod broke, the engine stopped and that was that. I was only putting around in the yard (low rpms) and it wasn't a violent failure. All my bearings are fine and I don't believe it is out-of-true. If it is bolted into the cases, how does it get out-of-round? Just need mag side counter-balancer pulled and new SPI rod and bearing installed and pressed back together. Please... anyone... i don't have hundreds of dollars to spend on this? Thanks to all!
 
When the rod broke, it could have jammed and caused the crank to come to a sudden stop. The momentum and the weight of the flywheel could have easily turned the crank out of true. You should be able to find a shop that will only replace the bad parts.
 
X2 I've only replaced whats needed. I've even brought my guy 2 junk cranks and have had 1 good one built from the 2. as a matter a fact I'm having it done right now with 2 Viper cranks
 
X2 on what they said, more of a out of phase then out of round. Would cuase issues with piston not being top dead center when cylinder fires. If its still true there shouldnt be much charge to get it checked. In the end if you dont have a pro (or experienced at least) once you fixed it you could be back where your at in no time
 
Honestly, not to sound like a dick, but if you can't swing a few hundred bucks, you have the wrong hobby. One way or another, sled'n ain't cheap.
 
What does your guy charge? I will be coming to ME in Nov. for hunting (Wilton area). I could drop it off for your guy to fix? Could he do it in a week? Just the Mag side connect rod and bearing?
 
DAAAHH... exactly... it's a hobby... and it doesn't even snow anymore. Why spend $400 or more for a rebuilt crank (plus a core) for something that should cost less than a hundred to fix. All I need is a puller and press. Buying a rebuilt crank online has no guarantees or WARRANTIES.
