Here is my experience with enclosed trailers. I just sold a 3 place snopro trailer which I liked. I did not like the electric brakes. After two seasons they were rusted up from road salt. They are a pain in the a$$ to take apart. So find a trailer with marine grade surge disc brakes suggestion #1. They are much easier to maintain. ATC (aluminium trailer company) makes a really nice trailer, but Triton is also really nice and I know for a fact they come through with surge disc brakes. I would go with the Triton if I was you.

I was wondering what size brake you had?
was it the small brakes? I think the 10" or bigger don't have the rusting problem
we work on a lot of brake and this seems to be true
the small @ 7" brake are JUNK!!!!

Another thing to consider as far as brakes are concerned... Surge brakes don't work on ice and you can't activate them separately from the truck.

THAT IS A VERY GOOD POINT I KNEW THERE WAS OTHER REASONS I DONT LIKE THEM MUCH! good electric brakes with a good controler are hard to beat! I would never buy a trailer with brakes smaller than 10" or you will have to maintain them! the biggest problem with the brakes is people let them set all summer with the salt on them and when winter rolls around they decide to service them you really need to service them in the spring! clean and lube all part and bearings at the same time and you will be much happier in the fall the first time you pull it. ( been there done that for lots of people)

do electric brakes know how hard your trying to stop?
last I checked they ramp up at the same rate for a smooth stop or a panic stop

They ramp up but you can control how quick they ramp and how hard they apply. There's also a lever on the front that allows you to manually apply them separate from the truck.

new electric brake controlers have a penjlume (spelling? swinging device)
so the harder you stop the farther it swings the more brake it applys
also if your going down hill it is already swinging ahead for more brake
or if your going uphill it doesnt apply as much unless it is swing ahead from a hard braking
you can adjust this so it comes on quicker, and also adjust the strength
or just use the thumb lever to run manually
some controllers just increase the longer your on the brake.
