I am in the process of changing my 98 SRX700 over to a 2001 SRX drivetrain. I am swapping everything necessary to make it correct. Right now, the motor and wiring harness are out. I have the steering gate removed for replacement as well since the powervalve servo motor mounts there on the 01. The 01 CDI and harness are set in place, and I am repainting and replacing a few things as I go. I was so amazed at how little corrosion, and how nice this sled was that I wanted to do this project. Just because the 01's are the most desirable and have the better headlight and HP numbers. I have the 01 motor, and clutches already sitting under the workbench ready to go. The hood has been retrofitted with a dual bulb gauge pod, dual bulb SRX headlight, and the Yamaha low black windshield. This sled was so nice, and clean I decided to leave the black bellypans and bumpers front and rear. I have a rear suspension with Bender transfer rods, and polished rails to install as well.

I am swapping in the Hyvo gears and chain in the chaincase, replacing the chaincase, jackshaft, and driveshaft/speedo bearings all at this time as well. Track if being replaced with a studded 1" Camoplast for a little better grip and handling also. I will update with photos of the builds progress this week....

Yep, I acquired it in a package deal. Bought an 01 R&R 2 place enclosed aluminum trailer, this running riding 98 SRX, and a wrecked but running 02 SRX. Sold the trailer, and have hardly any money tied up in this sled and the 02 is basically free! I really liked this sled because it was so clean, but the single headlight and older ignition is no good. LOL So, here we go with the conversion... It'll be a little time comsuming, as I'm cleaning polishing and painting everything before it goes back together. It's just a back up sled, but it'll be a sweet one when I'm done with it.The 01 in my avatar is my main ride, and the 97 in the background was the trusty old spare until this SRX came along. I'm just a sucker for nice SRX's....

If you want to get rid of that wrecked 02 I'd be interested in having it for a project sled. Pm me if interested Thanks

Thanks for the offer but I'm going to strip it in pieces and put it on the shelf in the garage. It's got alot of good parts on it that I can keep for spares for the build sled.....

Just a thought, the 02 has the DCS system, IMO would be way better off to use the 02 stuff than the 01 upgrading the 98. From what I have read the DCS makes it alot harder, some would say impossible to blow/burn down engine. Theres was a thread I read on here where they intentionally put elcrapo gas with way too lean carb settings and sled ran like crap but had no lasting negative efffects. I bought a crashed 99 700srx with all the go fast goodies, bought a 98 600 with motor blown for the belly pans, hood, trailing arms and radious rods for $200. Looks like a 98 600.....Moves like a 99 700!

Yeah, I've ridden an 02 and was totally disappointed in it. My 01 kicks the snot outta my friends 02. I take good care of my stuff n keep the carbs cleaned n run good oil n stuff. I'm not worried about the reliability of the 01...

Something must be wrong with your buddys 02, shouldnt be much differance from 01 to 02.
X2 the 02' should be equal to or better than an 01'
DCS saved my engine this year after a tank of bad gas, can't say the same for my buddy without it.

here here on the 02's.The DCS was a brilliant idea for sure.I have no need to jet up from stock in any conditions..the DCS will warn me of trouble ahead of time..but has stayed off for years now..

Oh, don't get me wrong. I'm not hating on the DCS system. I'm just not sold on it. I'm sure it works well, I just have had good luck with my 01's and will stick with what I know works for me. LOL BTW here are a few pics of the underhood polishing I started tonight.... Just a start, and not anywhere near how good I want it. But looks better than stock.

Thanks! Took about an hour to figure out the right steps to get it looking good. Then another hour to really get after it! I'll post more pics this weekend.

Sled is going out for a final degreasing, then the underhood aluminum polishing begins and time to put the skid together with polished rails and Bender TS3 transfer rods.....

Finally had some time to finiish polishing underhood. Started putting some of the wiring harness, CDI and tank on this week.....
