1979 SRX clutch Pulling

I have a 1979 SRX 440 with a comet clutch on it. I have the correct comet clutch puller and i can't get the clutch to come off. Any tips or idea's of why it won't come off and/or what i can do to get it to come lose?
 

I am not familar with the 79 clutch but im guessing it comes off the same as any of them. A great trick is to first fill the clutch bolt hole with grease. Use your grease gun and get the hose all the way in and keep filling till it forces out the hose. Then wrap your puller threads with a good bit of thread tape. Then use your puller as normal. The grease will act as hydrolics and it should just pop right off. I do this all the time now and you dont have to use much force. Maybe a nice piece of pipe on the wrench if extra torque is needed. Some guys use water or hydrolic oil. Water is the cleanest but grease/oil work best for stuck clutch. A impact wrench is not recommended but ive used it in the past without problems. Somthimes a little more POWER is needed and the impact helps out. Just be carefull not to bend or twist off the end of your puller in the crank end. Make sure its not a cheap aftermarket aftermarket puller, they are known for easy bending and breaking. If it is just be carefull. Chris

Thanks Chris. I tried grease, and still no luck. I am not a weak individual and i tried wrenching on it with a torque bar. I can't torque anymore.
 
I had an old 1976 Pantera and after I bought off my wife's uncle I tried removing clutch.Same problem as you have.I pu the right puller from dealer.Even the impact would not remove it.I was pissed then.So I decided to take one of them pads that you stick in the freezer that you can use to place on a swelled foot or hand.Place it between the sheaves and wrapped around.Took impact again and she popped right off.I was thinking the cold helped somehow..give it a try.
 
hit the end of the puller with a hammer. i leave the socket on there so you dont hurt the end , and try a little heat on the center of it to . good luck
 
I use hot water instead of grease, fill it right to the top of the clutch, wrap the treads on the puller with Teflon tap so you get a good seal and they usually pop right off..

You can knock a good crank outta wack with a hammer.

An impact like Tony says along with these other methods expressed will get most of the but leave the hammer in the drawer.

Some are just plain stubborn. The water trick tightened up nice with an impact (don't over do the impact either) and the ability to freeze the water gets em all. In the winter just get it tight and put the sled outside overnight. It will be off in the am. Not as easy in the summer.

ANOTHER THING NOT MENTIONED IS I HOPE YOU HAVE THE NEWER 102c CLUTCH PULLER WHICH IS ONE PIECE. THE OLDER ONES WERE TOO PIECE AND COULD BE BIG TROUBLE. 3:16 (yammie tony)
 
Just keep at it. I had a cluch stick 2 yrs ago. I finally just filled it with hydrolic oil and tightened as tight as i could by and and walked away for night. Came back next morning filled it with grease and used a impact and it came off. Not easy and it just about went through my belly pan it came off so hard. I think maybe the hydrolic oil help break the seal with it sitting. You will need to tip the sled up a little to pour it in there and let sit. It will come. If not ice or a lot of heat right inbetween the clutch sheaves.
 
Use a good hardened US brand puller, and Impact her on hard and leave it set for over nite, Then tap next day light with a hammer, should work fine.
