I had been wanting to build a 700 mod drag sled for a while now and happened upon this sled in February on craigslist, it had 6200 miles on it and the owner had already installed Bender triples, rear heat exchanger, jetting and clutching (which i will be changing). Ended up getting it for $1600 couldnt pass up the deal. Sled was in fair conditon, would be needing a track and a radius rod and a very good bath. Just finally had time to start getting into a few weeks ago. pulled the engine, harness, seat and rear bumper off to get it ready for a good steam cleaning, she was an oily mess but came out pretty good and i decided to polish the engine while i had it out to do some internal mods

Noticed one of the pipes had a pretty bad crack in it and a few small pin holes throughout, welded them up and decided to paint them red to stand out and be a little different from everyone else out there hopefully, got them sprayed last week and decided to do some of the engine parts in a translucent red metal flake, finally got them set in place on saturday, along with some V-force 3 reeds and k & n filters

wow, great find on that viper s for $1600!! Also what did you use to spray the head? Is that a high temp paint or powercoat or what did you use?

Thanks guys! I sprayed the head with a high temp primer then used a duplicolor metalcast base coat (3 coats) then 2 coats of the translucent red and finished with 3 thin coats of clear...followed the same process for the carb tops, exhaust valves and secondary clutch.

Well have been busy with work the past few days but i managed to get the power valves adjusted, put a new recoil rope in and cleaned the fly wheel/stator today. Up for the weekend will be putting 198 woodys megabite 1.075 studs in the 136" x .725" speed track i had here. Also have my 136" rail extension in from Hartman Inc. (awesome quality pieces from Tom, Thanks!) and 9 Tooth extrovert drivers to install. While I have that out i will be replacing all the bearings in the chain case and on the clutch side. Also plan on dropping 2 teeth and going with a 51/43 helix as a starting point for 500' tuning. Have an offset axle on order to run 8" wheels, and some 3 inch mufflers and piping that i will be routing to exit through the side of the sled, the Bender muffler is a little too heavy(and too quiet for my liking). Still much more to come but that will be enough to try to cram into one weekend...think snow!

I noticed the blue viper sitting next to yours in the first post has blue wind plates and carb caps, can you tell me the name/color of the paint and where one could pick it up? The painted heads/carb caps/wind plates look SUPERB and i might have to steel the idea from you haha
Thanks
Thanks

Snoprokidf6 the paint used is Dupli-Color Metalcast. Here is a link to give you all the specifics
http://www.duplicolor.com/products/metalCast/
Advanced Auto Parts or Auto zone is where I think I picked up the red and blue we used, the site lists other possible dealers too. You will "Ground Coat" #mc100 for the base coat that will give the flake and deeper color then #mc201 is the blue anodized which is semi transparent to give the depth and depending on how many coats you use it will naturally get darker and less transparent with the metal flake not showing through as much if too much is used. I also opted to put a duplicolor clear coat over the finished paint to try and toughen it up some because ive noticed it is easily chipped. I used a small amount of oil on the bottom of each bolt/washer when reinstalled so it slide over the paint instead of tearing it off in those areas. It was fairly effective

The build has been on a slight hold due to funds currently going to my Turbocharged Fx Nytro and I am going to have Justin at Full Power do the rest of the internal engine work needed to max out the Viper in the 700 mod class as well so it is currently back apart. Should be back at it inbetween grass drag season. Will be attending Presque Isle PA grass drags Sept 9 this year to start off the season (work schedule wouldnt allow for Haydays theres always next year I guess)

Justin does great work. Is he doing a full mod porting job for you or a trail porting?

Full mod porting job, top end, bottom end, and carbs, also will be altering the bender pipes to higher rpms
