I believe the stock gearing is 22/38 ( can someone verify this ) ? Will I notice a difference if I install a 21 ? How much top end will I lose,..don't really care as I'd rather have it rip off the corners alil more.

Verifed per tech pages. Going to a 21 is actually raising the gear ratio. Going to a 23 (higher number = lower gear, goofey I know but true) i would try different wraps/springs and clutch weights prior to gears. Chances are with a different gear you will have to play with clutches any ways. Alot of guys have posted what set ups they are running with their results.

Yes,.. going to a smaller top gear will take some top end but will add some bottom. I don't ride this on the lake,.. mostly trail riding. If I have to play with clutching to take a tooth off (top gear ) I will probably leave it. It has a bender clutch kit in it now. It's plenty quick enough,...just wanted alil more.

SURE YOU CAN DO THAT, ESPECIALLY FOR TRAIL RIDING. MORE ACCELERATION IN AND OUT OF CORNERS. BE GOOD MOVE. 3:16 (yammie tony)

How much will the gearing change effect clutching and top speed. Will I notice a difference ? Has anyone else done this ?

MAKING THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO DO WON,T AFFECT MUCH. YOU WILL HOWEVER ACCELERATE HARDER AND YES SCUFF A LITTLE MPH OFF. FARR AS CLUTCHING, YOUR PEAK RPM Will INCREASE SLIGHTLY. TRY IT. 3:16 (yammie tony)

If the peak rpm does increase a bit, throw a little tip weight at it, see what happens from there, reply back here once you find out, lots of helpful people on here

Thanks and "will do". Thanks for all advise !!!
P.S...... I have a new 1" studded (96) track, Bender clutch kit, Bender can, torque arm, all four shocks rebuilt last year. For this (upcoming) year I bought a set of V Force reeds, Bender 4X4, and am currently doing all BTV Skid and Front End mods. Short of regular maintenance what else can I do ? I thought about the Bender head mod / gasket, anyone have the boost bottle kit....do they work and worth the cash ???

The head mod is for triple pipes. It evens out the compression in each cylinder. Doesnt work on the single 4x4 pipe. The opticool headgasket is worth the money. Helps cool the engine better.

Don't worry about losing top speed. You could only pull that gearing on an extreamly long run in perfect conditions.
Stock gearing 22/38 at 1 to 1 full shift = about 108mph Real, x 1.14 dreamometer correction = about 123mph displayed.
21/38 at 1 to 1 full shift = about 103mph Real, x 1.14 dreamometer correction = about 117mph displayed.
I have the 21/38 installed and I will only find conditions to get into the 115 to 120mph on the speedo a couple times a year. I could never do any better than this with the stock gearing. My sled is also trail ported and I could feel a good difference from stock. I am sure you will need to add weight as others have mentioned to keep your shift RPM in the 8500 to 8700 range.

What kind of changes have you seen in your mpg? What is your recommendation to improve mpg and continue to gain some proformance increase from a clutch kit?

For performance gains do a search on this site for mrviper700 or Turks posts. I am not too sure you will be able to make any significant mpg gains with any of these setups over stock. There seem to be 2 popular directions to go. The lower budget way would be srx weights, multi angle helix and a green secondary spring. Then there is the heel clicker setup which is more costly but most consider to be better. There are many others which are probably very good as well. Read, read, read the posts here then test test test. Every sled is a little different. Make sure engine is running perfect before you start. I believe the torque arm is a good investment as well to keep everything lined up. Most vipers over rev some so try to get the rpms down where they should be
