I AM GOING WITH A GOOD TRAIL PORT. 780 GO LIKE HELL, JUST ALWAYS LEARY ABOUT HOW RELIABLE THEY ARE. 3:16 (yammie tony)
Depends on what you are trying to accomplish. A good 780 will be ported so you get more bang than a straight trail port, but your $$ investment is quite a bit more for the complete top end. Both will require good fuel. The 780 is a bit more finicky in that regard. 780 has to be warmed up properly or you have issues. I rode a 780 motor for the better part of 4 years and it was great. Jetted correctly, supply it with good/fresh fuel, and warm it up and it's as reliable as a stocker.

X2, never had any real problems with my 780 over 3 seasons, other than a lean burdown once in the beginning. but that was my fault for not jetting up enough when the temps dropped. good fuel, and proper warm-up a must. more potential hp with the 780 but a lot more $ too. comes down to how much you want to spend.

this is my trail sled so the reliable thing is great but what about fuel milage? how bad will it drop?

Mileage will drop some from the bigger motor but really depends how hard you clutch and gear it. If you run a race/aggressive style clutching and high gearing your mileage will certainly drop.
Love the window sticker!

It all does come down to how much power you want and what your budget is! I have had 4 different bigbores and a couple of trail ported srx's. The big bores with the proper pipes are a totally different animal. They accelerate very hard. A ported 700 will run very strong as well but I have alway felt the big difference was in acceleration.

Yes! Runs like top. I still want to dyno it this winter. Just ran out of time. I'll PM you the results once I get there.
