Have about 400 miles on my simmon's that I put on a 98 vmax. When the ski's are on a flat surface noticed the rear carbides are not even touching the ground. Lifted the sled and the front carbides are wore down, along with some of the black tab in front of it and the rear shows no wear at all. I know I have the right mounting bracket. Is this normal? Any suggestions? Thanks alot.

Check the Tech Pages for Ski Darting Fix. Pretty good write up there, so I won't bother here.

I have a of Simmons skis coming. I will take a look as I install them and see if there is any issues after installing them.

I run simmons also and have noticed the wear in the front. I looked at them and decided they almost have to wear some just by the way they are built, that leading edge is is going to hit stuff. Mine really hit comming off the trailer.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks for the replies. I just finished installing wedges and have the ski sitting with the rear carbide touching the ground now. Looks like you would think it should look like. Cant wait to try them out on a hard pack trail getting to the logging trails where it doesnt make any difference because they are floating!!!!

Simmons on Yamahas will wear on the front first unless they are shimmed... I quit shimming my Simmons as it takes away from the amount the skis are able to flex in relation to the spindle. Riding in Canada has me at 3 seasons on the same set of carbides.

Grape! You big spoiled baby!hehe Ok, I'm jealous, shut up.

I highly recommend making any ski at least level on a flat floor. This means all your turning carbide is working for you, instead of being dead weight! Plus, with uneven ski runner pressure, you will absolutely flatten the front of those rods, and then get into the ski material! That'swhat I did before Bergstrom put me onto the shim trick, and it sucks eggs burning up expensive plastic.

Make them level, you should be able to carve better, and float in the powder better too. Good luck!

I just received my new Simmon's skis. The documentation ( I actually did read the instructions) stated there are two mounting bravkets for Yamahas. One is YAMN which is for 2001 and Prior Yamaha sleds as well as some 2002, and the other is YAMV which is for 2002 VMAX 600, 700, Venture 600, 700, viper, and RX1. The documentation doesn't talk about 2003 and newer so I would asume the YAMV mount is for newer sleds.

My guess is the mounting hole for the ski is in a different location. My problem is I have a 2000 SX700r and they sent me the YAMV mounting bracket. Does anyone know the difference between the two mounts?

Thanks,

I received a response from Simmon's on my questions above. Their response is "The YAM-V will work just fine. The only difference is the hole height and the yam-V doesn’t use a spacer block. You might need to cut the tabs off the bottom of your stock rubber bumpers but that would be the only modification"

This thread has made me consider how I would setup my skis to avoid the skis pressure on the front of the ski rather than the middle or a little to the back. The shim that is discussed in the tech section seams to be the best option.

I was wondering how thick the shim should be for a Simmon's Ski?

Thanks,
