I found an 02 for sale that was set up as a drag sled but I want to use it for a trail runner. The sled has no front shocks just adjustable rods,a speed track loaded with chisels, bored carbs and trail ported cylinders.
Right off the bat I would have to buy a set of front shocks and a trail track and studs,I would most likely replace the carbs with another set, just heard too many horror stories of flat spots and hesitations using bored carbs on a trail sled. The porting doesn't bother me I rather like that idea ( Bender ported the cylinders ) but I'm adding up what it will cost me to make this sled into what I want and I'm not sure it's worth it.By the time I pay him what he says he has to have for it and do all the work to make it what I want I just can't justify the purchase.Buy I really want an 02 SRX LOL.
The sled supposedly only has like 600 miles on it and is in mint shape,of course we all think our sleds are mint until a perspective buyer points out stuff we've over looked.
I guess I'm looking for someone to talk me into it .
On the other hand I'm still waiting for a guy with an 01 SRX for sale to call or email me back ( been almost a week ),sled has around 1400 miles on it and I could buy it considerably cheaper than what I'd have tied up in the 02.I just need the guy to answer his phone when I call or get back to me to let me know if the sled is still there!!!!!!!!!

Is the DCS still intact on the 02? DCS is a HUGE advantage from what I have read, havent owned1 myself.Carbs maybe different on the 02 because of the DCS, Has that ben factored in? Enough guys on here drag racing sleds the bored carbs, rods and track should move pretty fast, Might even find some one willing to swap for stocker stuff you need. For what its worth I picked up an 01, overall pretty decent shape (4k,fresh top end) with brand new camoplast track for $1100 here in michigan.

I never thought to ask about if the DCS was bypassed or not and yeah I figure eventually I probably could get rid of the racing stuff but it's the hassle of keeping the stuff here until I find a buyer.Plus he's saying his bottom dollar is $2500 which if it were trail ready yeah maybe but not if I have to put about another $1000 into it to get it trail ready.
I may call him back and see how bad he wants to sell it by offering him like $1500 - $1800 because any more than that and I could buy another one just up the state from him with 3000 miles on it for not a whole lot more.

If the DCS is hacked or gone on the 02 I personally would go with the 01 for sure. Dont know about up there but down here $2500 can buy a pretty nice 02 ready to hit the trail.

you will spend more than $1k to put it back to trail trim. it will be a $$$ pit & constant PIA. there are real nice trail srx's out there for less $$$. tooo many variables w/ that one.

Hacked dcs? I don't think that will work, and if it's still hooked up, and you have different porting and modified heads, good luck..

Yeah the more I think about it I will keep trying to get a hold of the guy with the 01 for sale or negotiate on another 02 I just found for sale too.

No issues as long as your heads and porting is stock

Heads are stocks but the cylinders are trail ported.
I found another 02 for sale with around 3000 miles I am trying to get the guy that has it tracked down so we can negotiate a price.
Where I live what few 02's I've seen for sale still fetch pretty good coin,in the $3500 to $4000 range.I've seen 01's for sale in the $3200 to $3500 area as well.

Just this summer pioneer had an 02, think they wanted 3,000. And that's at a dealer. Looked pretty clean, so I would think at least 500 less from an individual

The 02's are tough to find. Most of the ones i see for sale are close to 3000 at least. I paid 3600 for mine 2 years ago but that was with a 780 kit, ohlins, bender pipes, viper skid, and c&a skis and i was stoked to get it. One thing i can say though is that i will own that sled forever. I love my 02 and it would be the last sled i would ever sell.
