Re: 1998 SRX Crank failures / recall
Does anyone know if these crank recalls can still be remedied by Yamaha, if the fix was never applied? The owner of the SRX I am buying is "pretty sure" the fix was applied. I am going to have a look at it, but was wondering if I can still have it fixed by Yamaha (for free of course...) if it was not addressed. Thanks!

If you run the serial number you should be able to find out if it was done at least.

Thanks to both of you. The guy I am buying it from is very straight up, and running the VIN is my next step just to be sure.

unfortunately you wont get any answers from yamaha as they have deleted all the old history. the only shot you would have is if you knew the dealer where the sled originated and they would have it on their files.
beyond that, if your uncertain, check the crank runout. your on your own as to weather or not the crank was fixed under warranty. it wasnt a life threatening warranty that could cause bodily harm like the spindle or tank vent recalls. those ones are the ones yamaha will still address.

Update id
I've seen where the repair place engraved some ID numbers on the end of the case which indicated that it has been updated, pull the primary off and check that end.

The previous owner (a member on this forum) says he is quite sure it was done, and that he never had any indication or sign that it wasn't. He also did not have any problems to that effect either. I will go with it, and either ride off into the sunset, or walk home! I have roadside assistance either way!rlbock said:I've seen where the repair place engraved some ID numbers on the end of the case which indicated that it has been updated, pull the primary off and check that end.
