Was there ever a kit made, that would convert the single carb set-up to a dual carb set-up??

They did for the SRV which is the same basic chassis and the engines are of the same design. A dual carb SRV setup would fit in an SS. Jetting would be different. An 80 SS was the slowest and most problematic of the SS line. Differences in the engine specs vs later years and a crappy rear skid/ track. If you build an 80 update it to the newer stuff.

the kit for the srv will work on the ss them find youself the rare twin pipes from aaen then they work also stock 81 srx pipes work well on the ss440 the 80 model year is too itself at very least you need to udate the ignition to 81 to 85 that by itself will help alot the 440 cylinders have lots of room to play with and just a few key mods to the cylinders make big hp gains heads are good in design and a straight 20-30 thou cut works great although a tri cut reworking the squish and dome helps a little more ...............as far a the delaughter sled at princeton yes it is fast but it can be beat
