I think I found a sled to buy,not what I started out to get but, anyway I need to know where I have to get a recall letter for the thing from.Do I need to obtain the letter from a US dealer or can Yamaha Canada give me that letter?I'm getting conflicting advice from guys that have brought sleds back and the last thing I want is to show up at the border only to have insufficient paperwork and end up have to scramble to find a place to keep the sled in the US until everything is sorted out.

Oh and yes I did try searching for this info first but nothing come up.But once I do have all the steps in order I will do a writeup for future buyers. ;)!

The Canada dealer can get it for you, just call Yamaha Canada (416) 498-1911
You dont need the recall letter to bring it across the border just for the RIV on the Canada side. You do have to send the bill of sale and title to the Maine border 3 days before you bring it across so they can check for Liens. You must stop on the USA side to have them stamp your bill of sale then you can proceed to the Canadian border, pay the 6% tax and complete the RIV online once you get it home. I have brought 2 sled over the border now and its not the hassel everyone says it is.

Yes any Yamaha dealer can give you the recal letter just make sure that there logo and Yamaha logo are on the letter and it should be word like this make , model , ser# and that there is not any outstanding recalls on this unit an you are good to go.

Have fun with it, wait till snow flys and RIDE IT! Let them try to catch you! If the seller would meet you this side of the border so long as sled is papered in his name.

cant help you on your paperwork ?s. but just curious, what did you end up deciding to buy?
I dont have it yet I will know by tonight but there's an 07 Apex I am looking at.I cant seem to get any satisfaction with the SRX's for sale and this is a pretty decent deal so I guess I'll pursue this for now.

Yamaha Canada can provide you with the appropriate document on their letterhead! Just call them with the model / year etc. and they can fax you the document.

You got to wonder about ebay sellers, the Apex I was looking at was on there in Maine and the guy set a reserve price on it which I figured was the starting bid he had set.So I bid on the sled but get a message of reserve not met. What? The auction ends and now I see the sled is relisted only now it has a higher starting bid which I assume is what the seller had for a reserve first place.
I was holdin out hope that he might actually accept my bid in the original auction seeing how I was the only one that bid but once I checked and saw it relisted that idea got thrown out the window.
Back to checking Craigslist and Uncle Henry's for sleds I guess,it's too bad to because the price I was hoping to get this sled for is about $15-1900 cheaper than what I could get one here.

Tell me about LMAO.I just emailed him AGAIN so we'll see if he gets back to me this time, only this time I used a hotmail addy so mabey it'll seem like another person is interested.Fingers are crossed.

Well a new development has arisen this afternoon, the guy with the 02 has answered my email and I am now trying to set up a time to get down to see/buy this sled.It kind of sucks that I'm about 4 hours away from him because I am kind of commiting myself here,it's a bit too much of a drive to just go and look at it if I don't figure on buying it.
But on the up side I may just have myself an 02 SRX by this time next week. ;)!

Hmmm well here's where I'm at now with the 02,the guy is firm on his $2500 asking price and it doesn't look like he's budging, the sled has around 3000 miles. Now for the other stuff it has a broken speedo cable from a blown belt but the belt on it now is all but new with around 100 miles. The bellypan has a the usual white spots,I guess all the blue bellypans get these,a ripsaw track and studs and supposedly new carbides.
The thing I'm trying to find out from him is how much he rode it with the broken cable,it could have upwards of 4000 plus miles for all I know.He says to me in an email and I quote "I snapped a belt cranking it on ice last year and it broke the speedo cable but who really needs a speedo cable on a sled?".
Ummm yeah.

As much as I want another sled and specifically an 02 SRX I may just make him an offer of $2000 and if he's that firm on his asking price and wont take it I will keep looking.I know these sleds are not on the market long as a general rule they get bought up quickly but surely another will come along.I don't doubt he will get his price from someone but until I'm satisfied it's worth $2500 I will keep my options open.

Definitely a good move.
it worried me that he wasn't concerned about the speedo (like that was the norm). I looked on CL for weeks before I even found a sled I was willing to call about let alone go see. I bought one first that needed some work done, but had I not bought the '97 600 SX needing some parts, I never would have run across the SRX I have now. FYI, the guy I bought the SRX from has a 2003 Viper 700 up for sale - he is a member here, username is cwagner100. It's listed on Craigslist: http://albany.craigslist.org/rvs/3171124918.html
He comes highly recommended, and the SRX I bought from him is clean and needed NOTHING! Just ask him; he'll send you pics. Alot of folks on here will vouch for him. Worth a look!

if u have the original bill of sale from the dealer and from the owner that works allso. u need to call 48 hrs before u come to the borader and give all the info u have when u arrive they go threw ur paper work that u have and what u phoned in and they take a quick look what u bought and ur on ur way
