I have a 1997 sx 700 that is higher mileage. The engine is getting tired and was wondering if anybody has heard of or done a viper or srx 700 swap. I understand it is a lot of work which isn't a problem, I am just wondering if the engine mounts are the same. Any 2 cents is helpful, as I am trying to get this done by December 1st, in anticipation of large amounts of snowfall! Thanks

It would be easier to just freshen up the engine you already have.

anything is possible. i once put an srx in a 95 vmax chassis and it was alot of work, but alot of fun. pipes simply wont fit the narrower sleds depending on what you expect for fit and finish. i would shy away from the srx as a donor. the viper will be easier.
with the viper and its single pipe(or even aftermarket triples) fitment under your hood will be closer. motor mounts will be located differently so you will be fabbing new ones to the chassis. you will need all the associated wiring specific to the engine. from there its setting the clutch center to center along with offset when re-mounting.
i have sized up the viper transplant and it appears more doable, more so than the srx i did in the pogo chassis. having done similar projects, for your time, effort, and expense, i would agree with swede on keying on your stock powerplant.
if you have incredible fabrication skills, access to lots of tools, lots of time and patience along with deep pockets, go for a swap. if your gainfully employed, december 1st is an optimistic goal.

the front mounts are diffrent , you would have to change the bolkhead and you still need a hood if you where going to run triple pipes. you could run the viper motor with the single pipe and your stock sx hood i would think . but if i where you i would fresh'n up your top and ride it. (maybe talk to Mr.viper about a port job ??)
