I searched for an answer but I didn't get one so I'll post here to get some feedback.I have an opportunity to buy an 02 for $2500 and the guy's firm on his price even though he didn't list it as so in his ad,but never the less I'm seriously thinking about buying it.
The high points:
About 3000 mls
Newer belt
Ripsaw and studs
PVs have been serviced regularly supposedly
skid has been greased regularly
Amsoil used

The low points:
broken speedo cable from a blown belt
some discoloration through the bellypan (blue) not uncommon
most likely will need w arm work at least new bushings and collars in the L bracket pivot points.
no mention of a cover

What do you guys think about me hitting him with an offer of like $2000 and going up to around $2300.I mean it's going to need at least $200 worth of work before it hits the trails just in what I mentioned above with bushings in the skid and probably welding of the w arm.Who knows what I will get into with the pvs even though the seller says there isn't many miles on them since serviced (6-800).

2002 SRX was my all time favorite sled, I should've kept that thing. Ya, never believe the seller, or whats the saying, "trust but verify".
It doesnt hurt to make an offer, the worst he can say is no.

Not up on the exchange rate... Here is the CBB link (it seemed a little high): http://www.bluebooktrader.com/values_retail.php

for an 02 SRX..$2000 here in Canada is low..I would not sell mine for under $3000.Check out the motor a little closer for when he blew the belt, may have done some crank damage.I would not buy it unless I could actually ride it and open it up somewhere. That's what I did before I bought mine.

The sled is in Maine and the used values are definitely cheaper than here in New Brunswick but it's still not a bad deal I just hate the thoughts of driving 3.5 hours to be dissapointed or to find out there's more there than pictures tell.

Yeah Blue I would love the opportunity to try it out before I lay down the cash for it but unfortunately it's September not January plus I want to get whatever I buy home so I can go over it with the proverbial fine tooth come and paint/fix what needs to be before riding season gets here.
If I do decide to go look at it I will at the very least take my cousins Snap On compression tester with me and check that much plus have a good look at the skid, specifically the w arm,for cracks or loose bolts etc.

I'd be in for 2k on that sled and not much more (I'd actually hit him lower to start). But I'm cheap and know the economy/prices here in Maine. Those white spots are well beyond the norm for the blue belly pans. JM.02

I think I will email him tonight to see what his reaction will be to 2k firm on my side because like you say the economy and used pricing has to have some bearing.
I was hoping to replace the bellypans with black ones anyway if I do get it but I don't have any experience with the blue ones as far as knowing how to tell if the white spots are too deep to be taken out with a heat gun.

X2 on "far beyond normal" I bought a crashed/thrashed 99 thats wasnt as bad as that one is. Some of them look almost chemically induced, like some thing shouldnt have ben on plastic was. I would be leary of mileage and the "broken speedo" sled could have an extra 10k on it, seems if it was an easy fix seller would be fixing it prior to selling.

I asked him to give me a fair estimate on what he figures he put on for mileage after the cable broke and he says around 400 miles so the sled should have about 3400 on it.
I may just go see it anyway even though it's 3 and a half hours away and see how firm he actually is on his asking price, when someone starts waving cash under their nose minds tend to change.

i would have to say its all relative to what it looks like....
but 2k i would think unless its really clean maybe more

You know I often wonder what people have running through their minds at times. I email the guy to try and set up a decent time to meet him so I can look the sled over,I figure with my traveling time it would be like 1pm by the time I get to his area and I ask if he will be around . He replys nah I don't get up until 2 or 3 so I assume he works nights but here's a chance to sell your sled, would you not get up early to accommodate a possible buyer? I'm trying to get there and back home before midnight.

just don't waste your time with the guy and sled then..I sure would not travel all that way and deal with someone who is being hard to deal with on an e-mail..good hunting..

I'd probably let that one go, he doesn't seem too concerned about you coming to look at it, and by the way he is describing it, it sounds like he is trying to make you think it's better than it really is. I feel like you will be disappointed after driving so far to look at it. More will pop up. Just have to be patient or you will end up with a not so great sled at an even worse price

I just repied to you in the others guy thread about an 02 SRX. After reading this I'd ignore my post in the other thread and like BM and VK said, tell him to pound sand. something else will come up. I'll keep an eye out around here for you too and let you know if I here of an 01 or 02.......although I'm also in the market for a clean 01 so you might need to be 2nd dibs :D:DP
