Hi everyone
So I just bought a 2004 sx viper with 8000 km. runs really well and looks to be in good shape. When I got it home I was inspecting further and saw the primary has a bunch of deep nicks and gouges where the belt runs. Not sure what the guy did to it but I don't think a belt would last more than 25 miles. And he told me it worked perfect!!!! Now I'm wondering what model/year clutches will fit as I'm looking for a clutch on EBay. Also, is there anything else I should know about this sled?

If this is what i think it is, it's a common yamaha wear and tear item. Most yamaha's have a ring wore in the sheaves of the primary. Don't quote me on this but most yamaha clutches on ebay for yamaha sleds should fit, even from a newer sled. Other than that, get a torque arm to keep from breaking motor mounts, and clean/adjust your powervalves. Other than that, you got a solid sled with lots of info at your finger tips.

Be careful that the nicks you are talking about aren't cracks. High mileage Yamaha clutches are prone to crack down near the center. If there are cracks near the center it's a time bomb waiting to explode.....ask me how I know....
Thanks guys. Me and Methanolhemi worked out a deal with a clutch he had. But no, this isn't just wear or cracks, it looks like someone went at it with a hammer and punch

High rpm/speed belt failure can cause those type of marks on the clutch surface

A spark plug that falls out of the holder and into the belt at 90mph will also do that. Ask me how I know that too....

Hadn't thought of that one but I bet that's what it is.
