comet A3 weights

running thundershift weights in a 102 c comet on a gpx 433,can't get it to hold a steady rpm,tried shifting the bolts around,have tried 5 different springs in it,adjusted the secondary and it just drops the rpm too low on the top end,come to the conclusion that the shift profile is just too agressive for the sled,and was thinking about trying the A3 weight,anyone use it and what rpm did it pull on the top? how about engagement rpm? i have both purple's,the yellow/green,gold and orange/silver springs.thanks
 
stock 74 gpx secondary which i think has a 27 degree helix,i may have a 75 gpx 338 helix which is 33 degree i think.i also have a nos 856 secondary spring here,sr,292
which srx clutch should i be on the look out for? or are they same from 76 to 80?
running the yellow green spring,2.6 grams in the bottom hole,1.3 in the middle and running the tip empty, 43 grams total weight,runs at 8500 then drops back to about 8000 on the top
i could try the orange silver spring which has a stiffer rate,but i lose out on the take off.

DON,T TOUCH NOTHING WITH YOUR PRIMARY YET. FIND A 76-80 SRX SECONDARY. WILL MAKE THAT DIFFERENT SLED. YOUR RPM WILL BE SPOT ON. THE ONE STAMPED 8A7 WAS A MULTI-ANGLE. 39-45. ONE YOU NEED IS A 8A5. 42. COMET A3 WERE 44.6 GRAMS. IF YOUR RM DROPPING, EITHER TWO MUCH WEIGHT IN PRIMARY OR YOU MIGHT HAVE SPRING BINDING. 3:16 (yammie tony)
 
according to aaens clutch manual it could also be from a curvature that is too agressive,from what i have read on the net the thunder shift weight's profile is very close to the polaris 10 mr.
i know 8a7 as a 1976 srx p/n,but what year clutch's would have the 8a5 helix?
how about exciters? thanks

just read through all of this if running thunder shift weights you will be looking at springs in the 140 to 160 engagment and 300-320 top TEAM red springs work well you are also too heavy on the weights and you will want to have the weight in the heel and tip your dip in rpms is coming from the weight set up ...as fars as the secondary goes the gpx secondary will never be as quick as the srx/ex secondary ........we have tested and tested and tested just will not work as well ............start out with a 8A7 helix yellow spring set at 120 twist (hole number 4) just this is wahat i know but .........come to think about it the comet clutches are junk and they will never beat the stock srx primary set up right and me and another guy have proven this over and over again can't say i have ever had my stocker gpx beat by someone running a comet

ok here in aaens manual it list's 2 helix's with a 42 angle,89n-17684-00 and 88n-17684-00 so which spring would you run with these?

nope looked at the book wrong unless you have the 95 or older edition they are not listed in there anymore ..............

76 srx 340 and both 76 ex 340 and 440 run the straight helix and it has no markings the multi angle helix is marked 8A7 and used pretty much on all srx's and exciters from 77 on up

;)! NUTZ IS RIGHT ON WITH THIS POST. I DID HAVE GREAT LUCK WITH COMETS BACK IN THE DAY. EVERYBODY'S DIFFERENT I GUESS. 3:16 (yammie tony)

on a gpx they work great but i have only ran them on my stockers my mod runs polaris primary and secondary .........but remeber it is a package deal with the clutching work with the primary and fine tune the shift with the secondary
