I searched to see if this had been done, but couldn't find anything. I would like replace the crank seals in my Viper, but would like to do it as easy as possible. I just had the power valves adjusted last fall and maybe put 60 miles on the sled. I don't really want to take them out to remove the motor and have to adjust them again. If I remove the servo motor with the engine could I avoid this? I'm not opening up top end as it was just done less than 500 miles ago by the previous owner. Thoughts, concerns, criticisms? :dunno:

Far too many people stress over the adjustment to the powervalves. There is 10 times the effort to replace crank seals than there is to adjust 3 powervalves. However, to answer your question, as long as you don't disturb the cable adjusters and remove the servo along with the engine you will be fine.

If I am reading your post correctly, you intend to replace the seals without removing the topend? Well I have never attempted this myself but, I suppose you can do it that way. You may be making more work for yourself in the long run than if you were to remove the topend and then split the cases. :dunno: Good luck!

I talked to a shop here in MI and they said they should be able to just flip the motor over, and remove the bottom case. Then lift the crank up a little bit, & replace the seals. I'm not worried about adjusting the valves, but if its one less thing to do, then why not try it? It could help people save time in the future.

as macheater stated its possible but not worth the effort to me. You're only saving maybe 15 minutes worth of time to readjust. For me, if they were done a year ago, I'd be pulling and cleaning them anyways, 60 miles or not. As far as the top end, I'd want to check it out anyways. It wouldnt be the first time if you found the seller was a little less than honest about the rebuild. jm.02

Readjusting power valve cables is cake once you have done it a time or two. I can do all 3 in about 10-15 minutes taking my sweet time.
