Did the xtra-10 swap in the VMAX last spring. Really want to get it all setup prior to reinstalling it. Do you guys have any suggestions for settings on the skid to lighten up the ski pressure? Rider is approx 200lbs. Both shocks are fresh fox rebuilds. Just really don't want to try and adjust this with it in the sled.

The swap is a cakewalk. In fact I can give you the part numbers for the spacers you'll need from Grainger. Gotta see if the local hardware store has them first. You can use washers but I prefer the even measurements you get off the spacers.

I have the transfer blocks set but was hoping one of you fine people might have a good starting point for adjusting the limiter straps on both the front and rear of the skid. I just pulled the skid out to swap my new track in so I want to get it all sorted prior to bolting it back in.

What did you use for your spacers?

on the inside of each side of the tunnel is a 1/4" thick steel plate to reinforce the tunnel, i have steel 1/4" spacers on the front and rear bolts but on the front skid bolts I added 2 large fender washers as the W arm would just slide right over them. Worked out perfect and centered the skid almost perfectly I did run into an issue though with the new track being too tight against the heat exchangers so i ended up rotating the rear brackets downward moving the rear mounting position about 3/4" lower. May still have to lower the front mounting points too but we shall see.

xtra 10 worked good on my 1997 vmax 700. i agree you will need that steel plate to reinforce the tunnel. i used washers for spacers last year.

I have looked and posted everywhere on this site looking for an answer to my question on how to install an xtra 10 rear skid in my 97 vmax 700, And no one has responded to my question and almost everywhere you look it says go to jb shocks....Well the measurements are off jb says bolt to bolt is 23 1/16 (585mm) and the xtra 10 is in the area of 25" ish. Could you help me with this or point me in the right direction.

Thanks Shawn.

I installed a x 10 in a Phazer II for my kids 2 years ago using the measurements from JB and the everything went in slick. The skid is a big improvement. I don't have any settings for you but it it very easy to adjust.

I looked at the jbshocks measurements it says 5 1/4 from top down on tunnel and 23 1/16 bolt to bolt and when i measurethe xtra 10 it measures at 25 1/2 bolt to bolt. Not sure if im missing something here but would like to get this thing done before snow falls lol.

Thanks again.

Are you getting that 25 1/2 measure with the skid not in a sled or are you measuring the holes from the donor sled? Most skids need to be compressed from their static position to match the holes in the tunnel.

You definitely need to compress the x10 to get it to that 23" dimension. Try a ratcheting strap over the rear arm or remove the shocks where needed. Notice that the rear shock is touching the bottom of the front arm when the skid is out of the sled... you definitely don't want to ride it like that;)

Ok perfect kinda thought that. And the JBshock link would be the best for measurements?
I just wan't to get it right the first time and not have a swiss cheese tunnel.

Thanks for all the help guys :)

Yes I measured the center to center bolt hols with the skid out my bad. I don't have the donor sled hole measurements. I found a good deal on a xtra 10 for 65.00 in almost mint condition online.

People have been using it for many years with good luck. I wonder if your X10 has the longer from arm? I measured my X10 which I think is from a 1996 Ultra and it was only 24.25" bolt-to-bolt center.

FWIW, I looked at two different Polaris Xtra 10 chassis this weekend, a 1995 and 1996 and both had the front arm only 4.5" or 4.75" down from the top of the tunnel (JB shocks lists it at 5.25" down). The rears were in fact 5.25" down and I took a picture to show the difference:

Once the holes are drilled and you're ready to install the x10, just unhook the springs and let the skid collapse, then you will be able to line the holes up very easily. Then once it's bolted in, set the springs back in place. Very easy skid to take in and out.
