1.) 2002 Blue Viper with 3200 miles. Piped. clutched, jetted, and owned by one of Olav Aaen's test technicians on the east coast. Says he's set up 20 vipers the same way as this one and it's proven fast and reliable. He also said he got one of the first sets of these pipes from AAEN to try and figure out the jetting. It has the Aaen pipes (silver ceramic coated), clutching, jetting. V force Reeds, Max wheel kit, CA pro skis, and re-valved shocks.

He's going to throw in a sled lift, cover, a bunch or helixes and other tuning parts he's had left over.

$2400

2.) 2004 Blue Viper ER with 500 miles. Piped, clutched, and jetted. Not sure what brands and who set it up. Wants $3000 modified or $2500 stock.

What do you guys think????

Sounds like you're lucky to have two nice vipers to choose from. I always lean toward lower mileage and unmodified sleds myself. If the AAEN tech sled is attractive to you could always ask him to help you set up your new one.

sled

Thanks for the input. Unmodified is not an option here. I was actually looking for a triple piped viper.

Here are some personal pros and cons that can maybe help you guys help me.

2002 Pro's and Con's

Pro: CA skis, Set up right, nicer pipes, well maintained, no ER, cheaper.

Con: Older, more miles.

2004

Pro: Newer and low low miles, better track that year (I think).

Con: Unknown setup, ER, stock skis, price.

I would go with the 2004. It has the DCS light and it has electric start and reverse. A lot of people eventually put reverse on their sled. Also the DCS is a little piece of insurance if it works ok with the tripples on. There was just a thread about this and it seems like people are having no problems with their DCS with tripples if they are jetted correctly and use good high octane (ethonal free) gas.

As far as jetting, there is such a solid knowledge base on this site and in the tech section that you should be able to jet it no problem if you're willing to turn a wrench. You'll know your machine better for doing it also.

I think you'll like your viper either way.

Tough decision. The '02 has more mods and was owned by someone that more than likely did proper maintenance on it, ie. fogged when stored, cleaned power valves, etc. It also is probably very dialed in and would just require you to perform normal maintenance to keep it performing well.

The '04 has obviously sat a lot. Did they fog it while it sat for so long? Did they add the heat exchanger when they piped it? I would have to look this one over before feeling comfortable. To me, half the fun is making mods to them and seeing the improvement. But, I would have concerns about the condition of this one until you actually look at it...
