I don't know what you guys know, but I heard an interesting tidbit of a rumour yesterday regarding Yamaha sleds 2006.
Apparently Yamaha is coming out with an entry level 4-stroke
The VK-540 is to be upgraded and come with a 4-stroke (no brainer)
Yamaha will be going on a 3 year platform (rather than staying with something forever without changes...ie. Phazer)
Finally the interesting one....
A guy from higher up in Yamaha told a friend of mine that he won't be driving an RX-1 next year.....(whatever that means...)
My guess is a Fuel Injected turbo sled!!!
Take it for what it's worth..

Cool.
We've known for over a year now that the SX Venom would be gone after '05, so an entry-level 4-stroke isnt all that shocking. Im guessing that it will be about 100-hp. That would put it at about the same hp level than the Venom was and it would give Yamaha a nice progression of power throughout the model range (100-hp, 120-hp and 145-hp).
As far as updating the VK540 III, I say its about frickin' time! Id bet that it will get the 660 from the Grizzly. The suspension is the realy question. Will Yamaha go with a-arms or will they put trailing arms on it? Trailing arms put less stress on a bulkhead than a-arms do but then again not many people will put a whole lot of stress on a utility sled like they would with a trail sled.
Well have to see what happens, the '06s should be announced in about a month.

2 different dealers told me to hold off my money till the 06's come out when I was just looking at the last 05' rage they have on the floor. He was dead set on them having EFI and a Sporty twin 4stroke.

Thought of the day:
Which weighs more, a turbo, or a cylinder?
The VK is still interesting to me. It'll haul my whole family through the snow with no problems, and pull my Jeep out of a ditch! Freakin awesome! I whitnessed a VK pulling a dead AC through untouched snow in the woods, with 2 guys on it! Just, pluck pluck pluck in low range. 20" wide track! Give it some power, and head for the hills!hehe
I bet the VK will be in the Vector chassis with that motor, but with the low range and big secondary, same track dimensions with a ripsaw pattern, and the Procomfort skid...we shall see.
I think this is the year of the snox ready jump sled, 4stroke turboed mommajamma! Muhahahaha! Who knows if they'll release it...

A Twin Pumping Out 130hp And Light Weight Like A Sx, Now That Would Be Heading In The Right Direction,if Not Im Riding Old ReD Again Next Yr.

My money is on a direct injected twin. The only thing is that I have no money, so my opinion and guess may not count!...?...?

I posted a rumour a few months ago on this board about the upcoming 06's from a local dealer, in which he suggested I hold on to my money until the 06's and muttered something under his breath about a possible turbo RS based model. I not sure I understand the strategy, ...he had a full showroom of 05' models to sell.

tomseal6, the 2004 r1 doesn't have 180hp. website says "capable of making 180hp" supposedly makes 180 with ram air. actual is somewhere in low 150s i believe.

- scroll down abit to see the dyno graphs..
04 R-1 makes 158hp at the wheel...versus 136 of the 02...sounds close to 180 at the crank assuming the 02 made 150 at the crank plus the added effect of ram air. Notice the RPM though. To make that hp its gotta spin....unlikely choice for the RX replacement. Look for a fuelly in 06...and boost in 07...just a guess....
oh yeah..and no more 2-strokes!! ever.

Mono Shock in the RS
Anyone think that Yamaha might drop the MonoShock skid into the RS next year ? The RS seems to be what i want from a performance/price perspective, but I sure would like that "adjust on the fly suspension" that the RX-1 has.

My dealer told me possible ditch banger lighter weight 4 stroke in a new chasis and they are going to share the monoshock skid in other sleds.

I like my MM700 the way it is, but I'm really hopin fer a RS Vector Mountain in a 141" or 144". I love to stubble jump and the 141 proaction is a good mix fer me. So either an RX1 Mountain 141/144 or a RS Vector 141/144. Then I'll probably be in the market fer a new sled next year.
