The season is about to begin here in sweden, time to continue my exciter saga. This time i need some advice with clutching... I bought polaris 10 al weights and a silver & orange spring for my comet 108 exp. What do u think guys, is this a working setup? Also ordered 8 tooth drivers though i´m changing the track for this year. Do i need to gear down? The track is a 345x38x38 /d

these are the specs.

SILVER/ORANGE
Rate=142
Engagement Pretension=99
Shift Tension=283
Wire Diameter=.207
# of Coils=5
Height=3.07

compared to the silver one i use right now

SILVER
Rate=84
Engagement Pretension=85
Shift Tension=190
Wire Diameter=.192
# of Coils=5.2
Height=3 15/32

try the purple spring
engagement 136
shift 254

or

the gold
engagement 129
shift 296

I have the purple with 10-al weights in a 93 sx and it works very well

Thank's for your advise i really appreciate it:) i'll try the purple aswell. What about the gearing, is it overkill with a 16/33 setting?

That gearing should be fairly close with that long tack. Maybe 17/33 would work as well. You'll have to test.

yeah, the only problem is that those gears are quite hard to find these days..

already got 17/31 geraing, it´s the 33 that is hard to find. Especially here in sweden

check out some of the various vintage junkers .......33 was a common gear in the older yamis and will work you can always go 16-31 will be very close to 17-33 .....17/33 was my choice in gearing on my mod exciter with the vmax 600 motor

Thanx for that yamaha nutz, i´ll do a little search on ebay. U got alot of nice parts over there for reallly good prices compared to here:) Please post some pics on your exciter vmax hybrid, sounds like a nice piece of work to me:)

You already dropped to 8T drivers. According to a post from Lasse that will be like dropping 2 teeth on the top sprocket. So with stock 17/31 gearing you will already be at about a 2.06 ratio. Try it with that first.

I would love to see the Exciter Max too. I was wanting to do a mountain sled project like that, but I don't think the ol pocket book is going to allow it this season :cry:

Ahhh Monte my friend u´re back here too:) I´ll guess i stick with the stock gearing for now then and put the money in some other places instead. Hpefully u find a bargain somewhere so u can begin you´re build. I will follow your progress with great interest! How is the progress with the cold air work?

btw i broke up with fb, atleast for a while;)

The cold air idea I think is going to work perfectly. I just need to find some time to tear into ol girl. Lol I'll take pictures as I go.

i will have to find some old pics .........poor little sled has been neglected for the last few years i have stopped racing it since the "mutt" and SSR clone is all i need for the local races

full mod Aaen vmax (95) 600 138 ish hp the good aaen cone twin pipes updated yamaha forged pistons boysen reeds 38mm bored flat slides .....upgraded CDI ....and the list goes on............these are older picks it is now a different chassis i was rippign the steel mounts right off the chassis plus there was a bunch of tunnel damage from oval racing i will get some updated pics it now has a vmax 600 seat reworked to fit the chassis with a stock head gasket i could trail ride the sled again which i think i might do

Ahh it's a killer! I love it my poor exciter heart just went nutz:) i want an engine like that!
