Sled lift

OK, I'm going to be building a sled lift from the plans in the tech section. ;)! My question to anybody that has used these plans, or has a lift, what if anything would you change/add to your lift? I will be using 2x2 instead of the 1x2 (just easier for me to aquire/long story). Aside from being heavier and needing longer hardware, see any problems with this?

I have used the plans here to build the lift and I would stick with the recommended sizes in the plans. My lift is to specs and can be tight when lining up the lift on the sled due to the inside width being close to track width. After installing whels ont he lift, some sleds have to be lifted manually to slide the lift underneath.
 
the one i bought has the winch to close to the front of sled and the handle hits on the bumper no prob if you adjust but a pain in the arss sometimes.
 
We located (my brother works at a company that builds weld lines for auto manufacturing) some 1.5x1.5 for the uprights which is close to the 1.5x1 it called for. The lift is all tack welded now. All thats left is setting up the jack and finish welding. We had a close call as my brother(non sledder) adjusted the stock demensions to compensate for the 2x2 and as a result, we almost had a lift with inside demension of 15". That would have been interesting. Inside width is now 17" as per plans. Lift is 6" high collapsed at the skid plate bar, 4" on the main rails and is 24" wide. It may be a little on the wide side but it will fit under my Venture and my fathers Vmax. The width with the 1x2 would have been 21".

I forgot to take the camera with me, but I should have some pics after Friday.

yes wheels are a must,makes it nice to wheel the sled out of the way if you get into a project and have to wait for parts.-Harvey
 
Well, got it done except for painting and wheels. Here are some pics.
Can't believe I've been working on the ground this long. The hieght on this thing is awesome. All horizontal bars are 2x2 1/8 wall, all vertical bars are 1.5x1.5 1/8 wall. Bulldog jack model "TWL 155 X" $47 CAN. My brother figures he'll get dinged 22 cents an inch on the steel, or about $85 (Canadian) but hasn't be given the final number yet (regular guy off on vacation) so it puts the total around $135 and 5 hours time.

Ya, they are. I'm going to try and round up some rubber to rivet on there. We did weld a plate on top of those tabs in the top pictures, so its sitting on a flat surface. We welded those up out of 1/4" stock because we didn't have any 1/8" to bend per the drawings.
