I plan on doing a speedo swap from a 2002 viper to my 1999 vmax xtc-p. What i am worried about is if the electrical from the vmax will hook up to the viper controller. I do also plan on putting a viper speedo sensor into the vmax if the analog sensor will not work. Could i do that? I really want to have a digital readout on my sled, so if i could not do a viper swap how could i make it so i have a digital readout?

first, is it a triple?
Then, are you willing to buy some stuff.
The tach runs off of it's own signal from the cdi box.
I did this first to the best of my knowledge on my 03 venture. It already had the newer ignition that sends signal from the cdi. I have since done a newer srx for a friend and a sx that was converted to the newer ignition and have sold enough stuff to a couple people on here to do the same over the years.
Two of these we used the gauge from rx1 sleds.
If you do a search on Superventure and my name, you'll find some threads, I think one of them explains what to do.

Why not buy a dash mounted GPS, then it would be accurate and digital.

Since the RX1 speedo and the viper speedo are pretty much the same thing(the port in the back) will it still work? For the ignition, would i need a viper ignition or could i still use the ignition on the vmax? Also what is up with the cdi box thingy? Do i need the cdi box from the viper and hard wire it into the vmax? Whats happening here is my friend has a viper parts sled and i have a vmax with a broken speedo and i want a digital speedo and odometer.BETHEVIPER said:first, is it a triple?

you have two entirely different ignition styles. One is old, one is new. The old fires all the coils, three times a revolution. A simple way to handle an ignition system. Later, all the sleds went to a system that fired each coil only once per revolution. This system is what you would need to use on your sled to use the tach from a viper/rx1/vector. The viper and rx1/vector gauge does have a little different wire configuration on the plug but it will work.
you would need
all electrics, including flywheel and thumb warmer from a 2001 and up red head sled. then you need speedo sensor, and harness plug, rotor, and drive shaft(or drill and tap yours). Then a hood harness and gauge from a viper/rx1/vector. You will aditionally need to wire in a temp sensor to the gauge. It doesn't need to be in the motor. Just taking care of the difference in how the two different systems work. Your warning light will still work correctly off of the temp sensor in the engine.

I was using my buddy's account to ask a question.
So I would have to get
http://www.ebay.com/itm/yamaha-vipe...Parts_Accessories&hash=item2ec31e8d36&vxp=mtr
plus the rotor. Seems to be getting expensive fast.

Any digital speedo will work really. For an ideal world i just want something that will plug right in for the most part. There are also analog to digital converters out there i can get. So i won't have to replace the speedo sensor anymore in theory.
