I read someplace on this site that the low speed circuit on the viper was a little lean. Would it be recommended to go up a size on the pilot jets and set the needle richer?

Sure you didn't read that the needle/mid range is lean? Viper needles were set lean from the factory. This is a big/important topic round' here. There are tons of threads & write ups on this(some great ones by Mrviper). Just search needles, needle settings, or go to the tech section and see how its done. Hope that helps!

Rod it all depends on what you mean by low speed circuit... The pilot circuit is where your sled idles and if your sled has "Idle hang" where the motor idles up and wont come down unless you flip the choke on and off, then that means that that circuit is lean and should be richened. There is also misconception about raising or lowering the needles.... To raise the needle you must move the "e" clip towards the pointy end of the needle and if you wish to drop the needle then the clip goes the "other way".
If you run a bit rich in the mid range you wont hurt anything, if you run lean it will eventually cost you $$$ in parts.

i personally never have much problem with the pilot circuit, just raise the needles a bit and the viper has no issues or break downs. Yamaha for some reason left them a little too lean with the amount of ign. timing and the needle/settings. The viper has leaner specs/parts then a srx does.

I just purchased a stock 03 Viper. The guy said it has had a reduction gear installed ( not sure what that is ). Stock pipes do I need to mess with needle adjustment. I mostly trail ride with the ever so often urge for speed.

I would assume changed one of the two gears. Probably dropped the top gear down a tooth or two?
As for the needles, check to see where they are set at. It definitely doesn't hurt to raise them.

thanks I will check them. What does dropping the teeth do? He said that it was recommended to make it run properly. Sorry if I am getting off topic.
