Was there any change in the ss 440 motors from 1980 to 1985. Also was this motor anything like the 440 exciter motors. Thanks Dave

80 had some differences and issues. Smaller carb and others. It had less hp. 81 and up were basically the same. They were good engines with much potential over stock.
There is nothing in common between them and the 433 Exciter engines. Completely different family. They have much in common with the 540 SRV/XLV engines.

most noteable changes where this 81-85 motors retty much unchanged 80 motor was a little different bottem ends are all the same they did improve on the carb and the ignition and in 84 they went to the ypz clutch ...........these are great little torque monsters and can make some pretty good power biggest improvement is to put a 40mm mikuni round slide on them (and srv) you can make it look like a factory swap easy just have to use a vmax or ex 570 oil cable and vmax or ex 570 throttle block with universal 40-44 single trottle cable and of course you will have to disconnect the TORS on the later models make throttle response and starting in cold cold temps much easier..........
