hey guys, i might have an opportunity to pick up a 2007 Polaris fst switchback. i know there heavy and they have about 140 hp and all that, but what i wanted to know is how would the fst compare to my viper? power, speed, handling? the reason why i am asking is because i will be making a switch to four-strokes. the fst has the 144' track and the stage 2 program, my viper s mostly stock except it is clutched and a 1 3/8 paddle track. so far its come down to a fst switchback or a apex, what are your guy's ideas!?!?!?
2 completely different animals. You need to ask yourself:
What is your riding style? Where do you plan on doing most of your riding? That is not exactly a trail sled...

well i am leaning towards the fst because i like to play in the powder and hit a few drifts here and there. the fst also has the tipped up rails so i wouldn't think trail riding it wouldn't be that bad? who knows i could be wrong. does anybody know if the fst has the mid-range like the apex has?
That's a lot of sled to be throwing around trails. In addition, a 144 paddle track will definitely tear up the groomed trails for everyone else keep in mind. Do you know what size lugs are on the track?

yeah the track has a 1.25 track. i do hear they are pretty heavy tho, even compared to my viper.
That lug size isn't bad for the trails, but won't be great in powder, especially if it's a Ripsaw. Been there done that - it just digs trenches.

yeah i agree completely, i would probably get a 1.5, but we will see. have you driven a fst?

this ain't TOTALLYPOLARIS. I would guess more apex or keep the viper votes...

yeah i suppose this is a Yamaha only site, i just wanted to get some insight. If i find a apex in my price range i will defiantly be picking it up. I think the apex will have a little more oomph then the fst anyways.

My friend that I do almost all of my riding with had an fst switchback for 3 seasons. It is faster at all speeds than my stock viper. However, everyone in our group who would ride it said it didn't feel as fast as their own sled but it does win the races. It is a tank in the powder, he kept getting stuck and I thought it was because he was a bad off trail rider and isn't very big so he couldn't throw it around. I am a big guy and I couldn't throw it around either and also had trouble with getting stuck. It was a great sled in that it was comfortable to ride, got great gas milage, no oil consumption, electric start, and reverse. It really shined on the trails even with the long skid, it corners and handles the bumps well. Like other people have said it really depends on your riding style, I didn't like the sled and love my viper. My friend loves the feeling of the viper motor but prefered everything else about his fst.

thank you for your honest opinion. I myself am 6'3 235 lbs, so i do not consider myself a small person. But if what you are saying about the switchback's weight is true (that it's a hard sled the throw around). Then maybe i will just have to drive one myself to see how i like it. I do like to go off trail, and have never had a problem with my viper well that is after i got rid of that horrible stock track. But i have heard some people say that viper's are heavy in the powder or whatever, but I've never had any problems with it in the powder. have you drove an attak or apex? If you have does it feel as heavy compared to the fst?SeX Viper said:My friend that I do almost all of my riding with had an fst switchback for 3 seasons.
