Okay, so picked up a 98 sx700. All the bogeys etc look new, EXCEPT.... ONE of the wheels on the short axle, that runs towards the back of the track I guess, and is on the inside (2 wheels on short axle). Anyways, one wheel was missing all of the outer rubber coating.... so it was down to the metal wheel. I pulled the two clamp/c-pins (or whatever they're called) off, than hammered the wheel off. The bearing stayed on the shaft/axle though? Now, the other wheel is good... but I noticed BOTH bearings seem to grind SLIGHTLY. Now, my questions;
1.) How the heck do I get the bearing off of the axle
2.) Do I need a whole new wheel (one with rubber gone) or is there a rubber replacement? Either way, I need part numbers and what are they called!!!???
FOUND the WHOLE assembly on e-bay, but spendy... and no guarantee the bearings are good? SO, that said, look at the picture please and tell me what I'm looking at! lol, thanks!!!!

thats simply a crosshaft, for lack of a better term.
best to use a press to get the bearings off the shaft. with the dissimilar metals, its almost an instant stick.
no replacing the rubber, gotta do the whole wheel. if your lacking a press, there are some animal alternatives for bearing removal.
what was the ebay price? i may have a few of those assemblies.

Ebay was 66.00 after shipping! That's with used wheels and used bearings.... I technically only need one wheel.... but... both bearings SHOULD be done.... what is the name of the wheel? I need to know if I am to order a NEW one? or???? Oh.... and, NO PRESS

I've got a couple of those plastic wheels with good bearings in them. Say $25 shipped to you unless you are in the Brainerd area and want to pick them up.

#1......bearing puller
#2......You'll need a whole new wheel.. Just take it to your local Yamaha dealer and they'll set ya up.

You can remove the circlip that's probably on the inside of the wheel, remove the wheel, then use bearing puller possibly.

Wheel is removed.... just need to get bearing off.... and YES, 25.00 bucks is a go! PM me a paypal address? And I'll shoot you my address! THANKS.... any suggestions on popping that bearing off without a puller? And how do I press the replacement wheel and bearing back on....????? THANKS ALL
I've always just set them in a vise, cleaned the shaft up with some emery cloth, squirt a little lube on them, beat them off with a hammer, clean things up, and push the new ones on. I'll look and see if I have a shaft when I go put the dog in the garage for the night

When the new bearing goes on, you can get it all the way down to where it belongs by using a deep well socket that juuuust fits over the shaft. Insure the socket mates up to the metal portions of the bearing and not the soft plastic.minnesotasx700 said:Okay, I will knock the bearing off with a hammer... than slide the other one on?

I have bought a few things from Ryan (including real nice used skid) and he's always been more than good to me. Don't worry, he'll come through.
