well, for those been following, i have the carbs on the bench, getting all clean, carbs look as clean as a whistle right now... prob didnt need to do it. i did screw something up, I took off the float and needle, pulled out the little round filter screen thing, but when i tried to pull off the filter cap i broke it..the filter and screen is still in tack, alittle bent, but i bent it back in place, but where it pops on the little plastic thing broke. i fit it back on, it seems on tight and put it back... they want $10.00 for a replacement. as long as its on should I be ok? the screen is alittle misshapped now but not too bad.. what should I do? its all back together now..thanks

I remove these "Top Hat" filters that are under the float needle seat on all my yamaha carbs and have been since they first showed up on the VMAX 4s in the early 90s.
I don't like these as the potential for these to get plugged and go unnoticed is risky as it could cause a lean situation that could result in engine damage. A friend of mine lost a couple cylinders on a 600 SRX before he knew these existed and they were coated in white film restricting fuel flow.
IMO remove all three and toss em!
