I guess im not much of a newbie as i have been member since 2008, but im mechanical newbie. With the help of this board i tackled my carb fears and now im looking for more assistance. I have had this 2000 sxr for three seasons now and never touched the coolant. My mechanic always said it was good. This year im saving the $200.00 seasonal cost and teaching myself the small easy basics. Can someone explain how often to replace coolant or atleast how to tell if its good still? And if it needs replacing, how hard is it? Same thing with chaincase oil? Owners manual shows how to check level but doesn't say how often to change, im assuming oil is old. How do i drain chaincase oil and what kind of oil do i replace with? Do i just get it from yammy dealer? Thanks again.. as u can see im trying to teach myself to be handy but also taking babysteps.. 2300 miles on this sled, maybe by the time this redhead triple is ready for top-end i will be able to do it.... hahahahaha.. i made a joke.. would never be able to do my own top end, especially if it took me 3 hrs on carbs, lol.. thanks......
