Sled Compass

I use a hand held garmin gps with a handle bar mount on my srx. It works out great, I do however keep a little 'safety' whistle (whistle, compass, light) on my coat just in case.

I also use GPS. You should look into it, even if you dont think you have a real need for one once you use it your hooked. I didnt really think id ever like it till i rode with one. Now i dont leave the house without it. Now back on topic i always used one of those simple pin on ball type ones. I bought a better one (which was like $10) and larger then those cheep dollar ones and put it right on my handle bar pad. It was always there when i needed a quick peek.

I use a flush mount Ritchie in a gauge pod on one sled and a surface mount electronic on another. They need to be mounted away from any electricity on the sled or it will throw the compass off - some can be adjusted. Agree that it is a good idea to keep a small one in a pocket.

Here is one of my GPS. I mounted into the handlbar mount. I have been working with V mapping providing accurate snowmobile trails. With a GPS like this, you can easily see the trails, upload signs and rest stops, and a big plus, once you know where you have been, you can always find your way back.
