I have a 97 sx700. That I bought last year. I cleaned the carbs today and noticed that the air screw or fuel screw not sure whats its called. Was 1 1/2 turns out on 2 carbs and 1 1/4 out on one carb. What is it suppose to be?? I went 1 1/4 on all three. Due to this how too. http://www.totallyamaha.com/snowmob...Carb Cleaning/Carb cleaning 101 with pics.htm
Second question. What is the proper way to adjust the throttle cable?? Also what is that switch on the idle adjustment screw?? Proper way to set that?? What is your idle suppose to be I went for 1800 rpms. Thanks

Tech section will have specs on what that screw was set at from factory. The one may have ben a little fatter for a handful of reasons. Theres after market "remote adjusters" as well as a "how to" on making your own.Piston was/reading the plugs will tell you if your good to go with current settings. Tech section may also have measurements on the desired amount of "free play" in throttle cable. If its too tight it will trigger TORS (Throttle OverRide System) Thats they little switch you asked about. As far as I know you cant adjust it, it either works or dont. Search "TORS" probably lots of threads with lots of more detailed info.

That thread says 1.25 for example....tech pages says 1.50. At 1.25 you should be leaner than you want to be
On my 97 SX 700 I usually run 1 5/8-1 7/8 on the fuel screw. But I'm also running 142.5 mains and the needle at 2.5.
To adjust the throttle set the cable so that it is loose until the throttle pin (where the lever mounts to the handlebars) is slid over, at that point you want the cable to be tight and start to open the slides. I think you'll understand it once you look at the throttle. This is so that you won't set the TORS off if you still have it connected.
As far as the swich you are referring to, that is just the TORS sensor, don't think you can adjust it.
Idle if I remember correctly is 1600+or-100. If you look at you clutch guard there is usually a while label on there and the idle is listed on that.

Your right it did say for example. But I figured he used the number for a reason. So I should reset them at 1 1/2 turns for all three.
Ok so could someone explain what the fuel screw does?? Controls how lean or rich it is just at idle or?? Guessing by Devilin post that less turns out leans it. more turn out rich-ens it.
Ok on tors switch it has to touch idle screw correct. You want the cable a little loose for idle adjustment correct? I think I have That adjustment figured out. I did noticed that when the tors switch wasnt touching the idle screw it did not run very well at idle.

Yes in=leaner, out=richer. Basically fine tunning adjustment for needle. For example usually guys that have to turn them out much more than 2 1/2+ turns will raise the needle then turn screw in 1 turn and fine tune from there. Thats why SXlover mentioned his main and needle position.

Ok thanks guys. I have never played with the needle adjustment before. Probably something I should learn at some point.
Does the fuel screw have anything to do with the idle?? I noticed that it will idle at about 1900 rpms. If you dont touch the throttle it will drop to 1500 rpms after awhile.
So I am thinking that I will go 1 3/4 turns out. I personally would rather be a little rich then lean.
