I know this is a redundant topic, however I will ask one more time. I have searched and the threads I have read all refer to piped vipers. So here goes the question.

I have an 03 viper with stock pipes and can. The needles are set to factory specs 3rd slot both under. I ride mostly trails with average lake crossings. To what I have read this puts me in that middle range.

Should I raise the needle setting to 3.5 or is it OK to run at the stock setting?

I've got mine set at 4th groove, both shims over but here is an explanation.

Clip position 4...two washers below clip.........................= 4

Clip position 4...washers split[one above one below clip] = 3.5

Clip position 4...two washers above clip ........................= 3 1/4

Plenty of reading if you do a search on Viper needles.

Found it. Fj did this up. Great info!

We've left ours stock on our 05, did melt one down at elevation shortly after we got it, but we guess it was due to bad fuel since we ran them side by side, setup exactly the same and only lost 1. That was covered under warranty.

It's kind of a personal decision I guess, but like I said ours are still set at the stock spot.

Can't take the credit for that one. That little write-up was courtesy of Sideshowbob. Great info though!
