I am doing the preseason work on my brother in laws 98 sx vmax 600 and first thing I noticed he only had a quarter tank of fuel throughout the summer. What should I be worried about? I am going to clean carbs and put in fresh fuel obviously but what else should I do.

No Problem

I do not think this is a problem. I think this is a problem if you hava a metal tank. Plastic not so much. You will want to drain the gas tank completely. Any old gas is dead gas, or engine deadly gas. I siphon mine out with a hose and bulb. Clean the carbs just like the website tech pages here. put in fresh gas before you ride. ;)!

just drain the old gas as it is no longed homogenous. ethanol blends usually denature in 30 or so days.

cleaning the carbs is always a good idea

also run the carbs dry before summerizing ,should be fogging thru the carbs and shut off fuel supply and let engine run with what is left in the bowls while you are fogging thru all 3 carbs..

indeed...just be ready to pull her over few more times on the first startup lol

did the pull the plugs and choke it,pulled 5 times, put some gas in the cap from my oil container, poured half down each hole, sputtered on the 2nd pull, running fine on 3rd,this was after i cleaned the carbs, used fogging spray and marine stabill,no unusual issues,i also clean the carbs at the end of season though
