i need some help. the powervalves where stuck and had 1 pull thru when checking the engine over after getting it home. so i bought complete powervalves and servo on ebay from a running 2003 viper. i put the powervalves and servo on the sled and put the powervalves in just as the old ones where in and found out via this forum that was wrong. i didn't adjust the powervalves after putting them in the right way and last night after reading the how-to adjust powervalves here i decide to check and adjust. warmed up sled and choked idle down below 900 rpm's and servo never moved. great. so now i loosen the 4 bolts to take out powervalves and there stuck. even better. i got them all out but there dinged up . so i took a file and lightley cleaned the edges up and used sand cloth to smooth edge. yes the coating is ok just the edges are now bare alum. so my questions are, will the powervalves from the 2003 viper work , is my servo dead or do i have a bad cdi, oh ya my temp light never blinked and does that have anthing to do with the servo not working and since my servo doesn't work at what position can i put the cam wheel and just leave it. owning a srx is like a love/hate relationship and i am really fustrated with this part of the sled but rest is great. thanks for any suggestions.

I am not very knowledgable on the power valves. But if you contact Yamahead, I know he rebuilds powervalves. Good luck Al

VIPER VALVES ARE DIFFERENT THAN SRX. Not sure about servo or cables. Compare them next to each other.Notice the curved ends, angle on curved ends. ALOT of EBAY sellers will tell you their parts will fit to make a sale! Where you at in MI? Contact YAMAHEAD. PM him your number or track down his, posted in more than a few threads. He does AWESOME work! He can fix your pulled threw valves and probably work something out to swap you viper for srx valves. Being as your old valves were pulled threw I suspect your servo to be good.
i'm in kalamazoo area and when i got the new powervalves and servo from the ebay viper deal i thru away the old powervalves cables and servo and installed the new used parts wiyhout adjusting. i assumed it would be a direct plug and go swap.

BUMMER on the throwing them away especially if servo/cables are different. Get ahold of yamahead. Might have to wait for shipping or drive to illinois but he can get you all fixed up.

as devil stated the powervalves are absolutely different. a quick check on the parts fiche at port yamaha will tell you if the cables and servo are too. I'm pretty sure I've got an early srx servo here if the servo turns out to be different. I've got a Viper so I'd be willing to do a trade on the servos if you find out you need it.

just checked, servos are the same. didnt check cables though
thanks for checking. i'm at a cross-road of what to do. the powervalves are in the sled now and it runs fine. it idles at 1800 rpm's and has great throttle response. after warming it up ran the sled up and maxed out at 8100 rpm's, i know it should go up to 8500 rpm's so it's not perfect. it's eating me alive not having it set right but how much money am i gonna sink into it before it's right. i need a whole new set-up now, powervalves, cables and a servo that works. anybody got one forsale. what will happen if i leave it the way it is. will it hurt the motor

I dont know for sure but I tend to beleive your pressing your luck leaving viper valves in that srx motor. Have you made contact with yamaha head? Please dont qoute me on this BUT I WOULD GUESS he would swap you out correct valves WITH stainless stems for your wrong valves for $75 or less.....WAY CHEAPER THAN A PISTON,JUG. OR WHOLE NEW MOTOR! Dont mean to add insult to injury but had you started a thread or read many others already here then you wouldnt have bought the wrong ones to begin with.

Staggs checked, Servos are the same. Did you check cables? I would guess they are fine to use on your sled if they arent the same. 8100 versus 8500 probably has ABSOLUTLETY NOTHING to do with power valves. I would guess clutching, whether it weights or springs. FIX what you KNOW is wrong (viper valves) and go from there.
i have sent a message to yam a head asking for a whole new set-up valves, cables and servo.and also i didn't know about this forum with all this info until i had already bought and installed the viper stuff. but atleast i know now instead of breakin' down on the trail.

You could always re-sell the viper PV's etc on ebay and use the funds to buy SRX PV's

^Another AWESOME member of this site^
you bet your sweet srx lovin' arse he is. pete amato meet me for the first time in his life and he now is know in my house as the king. this guy helped me out of a major jam and i can sleep now and not swear so much at the blue devil outside. the problem turned out not only using the wrong powervalves, i know better now, but the cdi was bad on my sled. pete hooked me up with the complete powervalves, servo and cables ready to go and a spare piston and while i was at his shop i asked if by chance he had a good cdi and he gave me his spare on the trail just in case backup cdi. came home plugged in new powervalve set-up to sled and fired up the sled and the cam didn't move at all. ah ha try new cdi, shazam the cam rotated as i choked the idle down so all is great. my wife says a big thanks.so if you ever are in need of any and i mean any parts this is the guy to talk too period. great guy and great prices along with some great looking sleds. thanks to everyone who tried to help with this problem and especially to this website for knowledge and brotherhood of owning and working on the yamaha's.
