So, upon preparing for this upcoming winter, :o| I decided it would be smart to replace my pull cord on my Viper because the old one was pretty nasty looking and I do not have electric start...Well, it was all fine and dandy until I got it apart... I removed the bolt and pulled the assembly apart and the spring came uncoiled at the speed of sound and parts went flying everywhere. I know how it goes back together because I have the manual but I am unable to reassemble. Has anyone changed their pull cord and have any tricks for me? I've tried everything I can think of but am failing. Thanks gals and guys.

I had the same thing happen to me with a boat motor. I easily expanded my vocabulary by 10 or 15 new cuss words. Took it to a shop and he did it in less than 5 minutes and didn't charge me. Recognized me from buying parts there. Good luck man!

I haven't (yet) reviewed the sticky; but, I yanked mine out of my SRX trying to start it the other day. Not sure if it's the same, but your coil spring lays in the housing. Pre-wrap your cord enough so when you seat the pulley it barely sticks through the hole. Tie a knot! Spin the pulley until the catch on the bottom sits in the spring ready to recoil. Next put on the bendix "thingy", followed by the spring, and lastly the plastic "Y" thing that kicks out the bendix and retracts it. If you put the spring on top of it, you'll tear up the the plastic "Y" thing (Trust me, been there, done that) Sorry for the generic terms, but as I said I haven't read the sticky OR the manual for the real names. Hope that helps!
All: Replace your rope NOW! It's a bitch to get to (pipes, cross member w/ 6 friggin' bolts, plus the 6 on the recoil housing), but it ain't something you can do on the trail!!!
