Any idea on the cause?

I am in the process of rebuilding my 03 viper. I am going to try SPI pistons this time around. But i came across this during the break down.

do you have anything in the exaust? looks like something caught around your exhaust boost port, or maybe just ring land failure. was the boost port webbing cracked and or tore up? sometimes they can crack and catch a ring edge, that in turn jambs the lower ring land, breaking it.

the ring isnt broken. just a chunk of the piston inbetween the two rings

are there any marks on the ring that maybe look like it caught the port, got pushed down and broke that off. ??
Otherwise, maybe detonation cracking the piston ??
