This summer I put a Comet 102 on my Exciter 440 that does not have the oil pump gear so I have no working tach. I have read that I need a 2 pulse tach and have read how to wire it, one wire to ground and the other to the lighting coil.
What I need to know is what vintage and newer sleds had 2 pulse tachs? I know a lot of the earlier Polaris Indy twins had 2 pulse tachs, but I am looking for something smaller than 4 inches in diameter and possibly one that will fit in the existing dash hole that is currently holding my worthless 3 1/2" cable driven tach. I would prefer to use the existing mounting hole just to keep it looking somewhat stock, but can mount it on the bars if need be. Brand of tach makes no difference to me.
A friend of mine said he could pick one up for me at Underwood's Salvage here in MI for about 8-$10, but he said Underwood's has about 2,471,953 used tachs to choose from ....so please help him choose the correct one for my sled. Gotta get one hooked up soon to get some clutch testing done .
Thanks in advance for any help.
