i just recently bought a like new 2001 yamaha srx, only mod it has is a bender primary and secondary clutch kit. Wondering what other mods/combinations you guys out there have found that really works good reeds? transfer rods?

Once it is clutched right spend your money getting that power to the ground, studs and yes transfer rods will help. You might also want to have your shocks rebuilt if there's any amount of miles on them at all and then you can have them valved for your weight and riding style.

It has a new track, 196 studs and shocks have been recently rebuilt. all the mainaticed has been kept up. wondering on like reeds, boost bottle, cold air intake, any success with gearing? let me kno what you guys got and how well you like it

reeds: no real gains on a stocker except maybe a slight improvement in throttle response, not worth the $
boost bottle: no gain
cold air: minimal if any gain, again not worth the $

gear for the riding you're going to do. 196 studs is probably more than you need and adding a lot of extra weight to move around. What exactly are the components in the bender kit you got? Give a good description of the riding you intend to do and the guys can point you in the right direction.
Like fourbarrel said get the power you have to the ground first. If you still need more HP after that the best bang for buck on the srx is porting.

All i know about the clutch kit is it was from bender for the secondary and primary the primary had a new spring and weights and the secondary has the helix and spring. Looking for some agressive trail riding.

I would ride it the way it is before you change too much. See what it does or doesn't do that you want it to, then go from there.

The weights are the rivot ones bender sends you i didnt put the clutch kit in i dont know what they are but the primary spring is yellow with blue markings and the secondary spring is yellow and the bender helix is set on 0

If you can take a picture of the helix and your weights the clutch gurus can help you alot better. the weights have letter and number stamped on them like 89a-10, 8bu-00, 8bu-10, 8dn-20 ect, your helix will have numbers like 9870, 9860, 9770 TTP, 2070, ect

It's hard to not get caught up in the "gotta do engine mods" hype to get a sled to work better,by far the best way to get the sled to perform to it's capability is by dialing the clutches in and playing with the gearing, the 2 go hand in hand.

Unless your doing extensive mods to the cylinders, heads and exhaust the factory reeds are fine and the aftermarket exhausts that were/are available are generally not worth the money on a stock engine. It has been proven that pretty much all stingers will lose hp regardless what the ads say,the one made by a now defunct company called Power Inc was said to be the only one that didn't lose hp.

For the money your better off staying away from V force and Boyeseen reeds, their gains are negligible on a stock engine. If your dead set on doing some engine work then find some posts by guys that have done the 780 kit route, they could tell you the good, bad and the ugly plus what you will be spending. That is not a cheap mod to do.

the best bolt on mods for the srx is clutching but you need to tell us what you got in order for people to help you. good luck

X2...sled could be spot on perfect the way most of us would set it up. With Bender primary/secondary, new track with studs and rebuilt shocks I would tend to think gearing has ben played with and adjustable transfer rods. Wait till we get some snow, RIDE! Cant stress QUALITY FUEL enough! If he needs improving figure out what the weights and springs are. Primary usually 3 dots W.W.W= white, white, white W.Y.W....Y being yellow, these are examples only. Secondary usually a solid color. Would have to pul chaincase cover off to verify gearing.

The clutch set up right now does amazing in the yard, no complaints bout that! I will keep you guys posted. Just to let you know on my sxr (as you can see below) on like reeds and spacers and it really perked it up, triple pipes were just icing on the cake. I think the srx is just going to stay stock for a while.

Yamaha got it right with the SRX. there are gains to be made but not with engine bolt ons.

and the key thing with your clutch kit when you get a chance to really try it out: for peak performance you want it to jump right to 8100ish rpms and climb to 8500 in a short distance and hold 8500 rpms. anything other than this and you have room for improvement

He bought tht sled from me it has a 8mm shim in primary both springs are yellow and got and has heavier revites in the waits and the helix it is a bender racing kit
