Is there any difference in the years 98/99 and 2000+? I was thinking of buying 8CM-47421-50-00 but it lists it for 2000-02, would it work? Says its only ~$10 from a couple of sites on the internet, seems to good to be true.

Those are more than likely generic and not beveled at the front.

Any slide listed for a pro action skid will fit, anything from 97 - 05 used the same rail profile if I'm not mistaken the length will be the only difference.Sliders will usually come sized for 136 or longer slide rails you just have to cut them to length.

I use a bigger flat blade screw driver and a hammer. Carefully drive the screw driver into the side of the slide just enough that it has something to grip and tap it out.

A little wd40 helps too.

Once it's through the track window, I've used vice-grips and a hammer to 'persuade' them out.

a little never-seize or grease on the rails will help for next time.
My issue getting them off was the track window was way too small and had a heck of a time getting them thru the window. Was a real nightmare.

A slide-hammer (no pun intended) with a screw-in attachment works very well for removing slides, especially if you want to replace them with the track still installed. I've been using this method for years now.

Really? The part no I listed was specific to a machine and was a yamaha OEM number. I was just surprised that it was ~$10. I don't want to post a link here because most forums don't like links posted to commercial sites, but if you do a google search on the part number it'll show you the sites that carry it and its price (and they have the machines it goes to cross listed).

I used 8cms on my SXR once. They will fit and they are beveled. Theyre OEM-all the Yammie slides I've used are ready to roll when you get them.
Installed the hyfax's yesterday and they went right in. Perfect length and everything. They slid right on, whereas the aftermarket ones that were on there I had to beat pretty hard to get off. $10/piece well spent.
Putting the skid back in was easy once I did a search that said to put the back end way way up to get the front part of the skid in. I struggled for 2 hours to put it in with it up about 3-4' (all the travel I had), then I rigged up another way that got it well above 45 degrees and had no problem after that.
Glad I got in there, one of my track clips was torn apart and chewed up the hyfax. Crazy as I only have about 100 miles on the last set. Must be all the gravel roads VAST makes us go on.
