I have a 97 SX 700 triple. I was told the stator was bad just over a year ago. I had it replaced and just noticed that I was, once again, having spark issues. I brought it back and I'm now being told that the stator is once again bad.
Does anyone have any ideas why, other than I "may" have gotten a bad part? Can a stator be shorted out somehow - something else wrong causing the stator to go bad?
I've never had stator issues in any sleds in the past and now I've had 2 go bad on this machine in just over a year.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jim.

Stator
We have had that luck also with my sons 700 SXr. Not sure what causes the stator to mess up but it happens. We purchased a new stator online and are good now, check around for pricing tho we found one for $ 149.00 new but some places want big money for them. One thought is a short at the handlebars or the wiring harness under the motor. Look it over real good before starting with a new stator.

Check the harness that runs under the engine. You may have a rub thru causing you some grief. I went thru 3 used stators on my 97 sx
sounds like a chaffer
